Title: Bttfii Script
Description: First draft
needles1987 - July 8, 2007 01:24 AM (GMT)
BTTFII ScriptMarty Jr. was called Norman. He was a wimp and an idiot, almost failing every class. And Marlene's original name is Doris.
I liked how they visited the '60s. Joey locks himself in his room eating bread and water. The Baines' have another addition to the family, Ellen, who was born in 1956.
Here's my favorite part-
Marty: I just want to know one thing: How exactly did you conceive of this plan?
'67 Doc: I took some LSD and it just came to me.
Then Marty looks over at '85 Doc who just simply shrugged.
I can totally see that happening.

I'm not too crazy about the names Norman and Doris. Also, I think they went a little too overkill on foture technology. Featuring digital formats like Vid-Rom, CD-Rom, Mini-C, DDX, Micro-V, Micro-D - and, yet, not DVD-Rom. I think CD-Rom is the only one out of those formats that actually exist. The idea of not being able to find a simple book in 2015 is very overkill. I much prefer the portrayal of 2015 in the final film.
I'm not too keen on the 1985A segment myself. I especially don't like the idea of Mr. Strickland being in cahoots with Biff Tannen.
As for the 1967 segment, that one interested me the most. I actually would've liked to have seen Marty and Doc returning to 1967. My story, Psychedelic Psummer, is partially based on the 1967 portion of the Number Two script - except that this takes place around Marty's birth, and I changed the personality of Toby Baines. I did keep in that joke about Joey locking himself in his bedroom, and eating nothing but bread and water. I also gave Mr. Strickland a minor role, where he gives this "he looks to me like a slacker" speech to Officer Reese - and then he goes on about how these "slackers" should be shipped off to Viet Nam, instead of just simply being given a detention.

Just out of curiousity, why did you change Toby's personality?
bttf44 - July 8, 2007 07:40 AM (GMT)
I wanted Toby to have a more prominent role in the story. I was actually a little confused by his attitude in the script, because he at first seems to be against hippies - then he later on mocks his father for "agreeing with a hippie", when Sam Baines agrees with Marty that he should just go back to jail.
Also, because the whole "Marty's conception being endangered" storyline was missing, I decided to have there be relationship issues between Sam and Toby - which the Martys try to get them to reconcile, when the two of them are unexpectedly sent up to the podium to give a speech about their "travels". I like the whole idea of the Martys giving a speech on how important family is - so that's that.
Also, I really liked the idea of establishing a warm and friendly relationship between the Martys and Toby. I guess I really have a thing about the time travellers establishing a friendship with people from the era who happen to be the same age as them. Although, there is the obligatory bully, too. I'm probably the only ficcer to have established the ancestors and descendants of Douglas Needles being bullies themselves. The Tannens as bullies, of course, is a far more common plot device - and it was often used in The Animated Series.

Needles is actually more of a rival than a bully. :buford: :griff:

You do have a good point. I figured that Douglas Needles wouldn't be quite as bad as Miff Tannen. In 2015, Marty and Needles did almost seem like they were friends. Obviously, Needles wasn't a very good friend - but still...

I think Sam was in denial about Toby being drafted. He said that the war was going to end in January of 1968 so Toby won't have to go.

Yeah, he doesn't mind that all the other children get drafted - as long as it's not his own. At least he was a little more consistent in Psychedelic Psummer, even if he was acting hateful towards his son.

Toby was excited about going to Vietnam to kick commie butt, but I don't think he was ever against hippies.

Toby was pro-war, but pro-war doesn't equal 'Anti-hippie.' I don't think Toby mocking his dad for agreeing with a hippie has anything to do with his stance on hippies.

I think a lot of conservative dads were like that during Vietnam. Draft all the boys they want as long as it's not their own son.
bttf44 - November 4, 2007 11:07 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it's possible there were plenty of dads like that back. I wouldn't know for sure, as I wasn't around back them. I guess I was thinking about what kind of speech the Martys would be giving towards the end - and, because Marty's conception wasn't an issue, I had to come up with another issue to address (but still has the "family" theme).
It would give the Martys an opportunity to speak on showing respect for people of other political views. As much as I do lean liberal in my views, I think some people on the left can be just as intolerant as some people on the right are - which, of course, gives the intolerants on the right ammunition to say that liberals are "hypocrites". I don't agree with the right on too many issues, but there are people who lean right and actually tolerant of people who disagree with them. So that's that. It's not really about liberal vs conservative, but about tolerance vs intolerance of people with views you disagree with.

I read it last week and all I can say is "wow". 2015 seemed to be too futuristic and 1985A seemed to bland. The final product was 100 times better, especially since we got to revisit the first movie.
Although, I did like the idea of going 1967 as being a possible Part 4.

I agree about them going too overkill with the futuristic stuff of 2015. My story, Psychedelic Psummer, is based on he 1967 portion of that script - except it takes place in 1968.

Spike was originally a boy.
Marty Jr (Or Norman) was originally slightly taller than his father. One of Griff's gang members said something about Norman shrinking a few inches when they saw Marty Sr on the hoverboard.

I wonder how they would've been able to tackle that.

They probably would have put stuff in his shoes that would make him appear taller.
needles1987 - November 21, 2007 07:51 PM (GMT)
They seemed to make a lot of cracks about Marty's height in that script.
