Title: Bttf.com
I Love Doc - June 20, 2007 08:46 PM (GMT)
I wasnt sure where to put this so sorry if its in the wrong place. I swear to God now I remember why I stopped posting there for awhile. Today I made a topic called Parts That STILL Make You Laugh, and I had to put damn in there a few times. I wrote them as d*mn because I know they get crazy, and they banned me for a week! They said I violated crap and that I used censors and everything. I swear to God Stephen has problems. The words are part of the freaking movie for God sakes! Dont give me crap that there are young people in there because if they arent too young to watch the movie wheres theres curses then they arent too young to be on the board. Give me a break!

I haven't been to bttf.com in awhile, partly because after being a regular member for a long time I was burned out on talking about BTTF and partly because I just haven't had the time. I didn't know that they suspended people there, it used to be they would just ban people permanently. I remember once at bttf.com a member put something like that in his signature and he it was removed and he wasn't allowed to use his signature again. I could totally understand if words like f-bombs were censored but since words like "damn" and "shit" were used in the movies its kinda odd to censor them. Of course its his board and he can do whatever he wants with it. I do plan on going back there sometime when I get the chance, mostly to see whats changed since I was a regular there.
Edit: I moved this to general chat since we have two old threads there about basically the same thing. Here are those two topics:

I haven't been there for some time. Have no interest in BTTF or BTTF.com. I've moved on to other things.

This is a big problem for everyone. Now i'm not sure but i am almost positive that when you sign up for the board is says that you need to be 13 years of age or older or with parental consent. Now lets switch that around to movies that are rated for 13+... 13+ movies accoarding to the Parental Advisory Board of Canada can contain up to 8 profanities.... and we can't use damn in one post? Pppphh.

Don't fight it. Don't bother bitching about it.
Firstly, the board is run by a right-wing conservative. Nothing wrong with being a republican or religious, but clearly his personal beliefs affect his decision-making on the message board. That's his choice. His board.
Secondly, he's changed the way he runs the board since the "Golden Age". It's not for the entertainment of the fans, it's for discussing new issues regarding the trilogy. Basically, it's a very business-like board. I don't really agree with that for a message board about a movie series, but he basically wants it to be a board solely for serious discussions, not for fun or entertainment value.
That is the state of that message board currently, and it doesn't seem to be changing. It used to be much more relaxed and fun, but Stephen's chosen to cut that out of it and apply heavier restrictions. It would be much easier and less stressful for everyone if they just accepted that and went along with it. No sense stressing about it anymore. It is what it is, and it's his board, and he has the right to run it as he sees fit. Don't like it, don't post there. If he wants to try to drum up more traffic, he might change his policies, as it's a ghost town compared to how it used to be, but for now that's how he's decided to run it.

I understand that they don't allow posts about the video, Brokeback to the Future. The admin does seem to be very uptight because of that.
I can understand about not liking discussion about politics, though, as that can be a rather heated topic. I personally lean liberal - but I'm not about to bash conservatives, as Alex P Keaton was a conservative. On another message board, I did mention something along the lines of Alex P Keaton being proof that not all conservatives are hatemongers - and I was pretty much bitched out for it by some of the conservative members of that board, who proceeded to bash liberals in return - and, unfortunately, the admin seemed to take their side. I admit that this was bad wording on my part, but I was still a little upset about the hateful comments that Rush Limbaugh and many of the YouTube members were saying about Michael J Fox. The bottom line is, though, I thought I was actually defending conservatives with that post. Anyway, to be perfectly fair, some liberals can be hypocrites or intolerant, too.
About the swearing, I myself am not a big fan if swearing - but, let's face it, "holy shit" is pretty much one of Marty's catchphrases. Also, Doc does say "damn" a lot. The thing is, even the word "crap" isn't allowed on that board - and usually that isn't even seen as a swearword. Instead, "crap" is usually what people say - when they don't want to say "shit".

Please its so stupid. I hardly go there anymore, and the one time I actually start posting again I get banned for a week. Whatever. Even screw gets edited out.

PS Does anyone know why we dont have siggys and avatars on there anymore?
bttf44 - July 8, 2007 06:15 PM (GMT)
Actually, the siggies have a ridiculously small limit - only 25 characters. You can't even upload your own avatar. That is pretty stopid.

If you think the BTTF.com boards are bad, the Back to the Future board at IMDB is much worse. There is an extremely nasty user there named Jeff Winston! Other than marioguy, most of the users on the BTTF.com boards are pretty nice. Honestly, what's wrong with comparing Marty McFly and Alex P Keaton?
ETA: I just found out that Jeff Winston is an online persona for a novel, and that his character is supposed to deliberately sarcastic. I guess I responded badly to him, because two other people responded sarcastically to my "Marty and Alex" post - but his comment was the worst. I was just hoping for a better reception at the IMDB boards.
No Roads... - July 13, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
What i've found about IMDb is that isnt a community. So it offers a much different environment to post on.
bttf44 - July 13, 2007 03:00 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that's probably it! I don't know if I'll be sticking around there! I still feel bad that I reacted badly to Jeff Winston's sarcasm. Well, I should maybe just stick to BTTF.com and this board. The only issues I really have with BTTF.com is administrative stuff.
Also, because IMDB is a different kind of an internet forum, you'll probably get a few comments from people coming on to bash the BTTF trilogy. I've also read some of the old messages from the Michael J Fox board there - and it seems like there are too many people who come there to rip on MJF. While I'm at it, I should probably just stay away from YouTube, as well - or, at least, not read the comments. There are quite a few good videos on that site, but some people can be such total dickheads with their comments. I mean, a lot of the comments that were posted for MJF's compaign ad for Claire McCaskill made me feel sick to my stomach.
