Title: The Songs You Love That People Hate...
Description: What songs do you like that others don't
Alternate Strickland - May 15, 2004 12:24 AM (GMT)
This is the inverse of the other topic. What songs do you like, that most people hate/don't like?
I'll post some of mine later...
Eastwood McFly - May 15, 2004 01:39 AM (GMT)
Pretty much the band of Rooney espically the song Blueside
My friends think it is like a mind-controlling song, but really it is just good music, well better than the songs that have 30 million beeps in it to muffle all the bad words.
I guess they weren't ready for that music, I don't think there kids will be either, maybe their parents though. :P
BeanieRobert2001 - May 15, 2004 10:50 PM (GMT)
Everytime by Britney Spears

Obladi-Oblada By The Beatles...
I hear it made some "50 worse singles" list.. <_<
Blind Spot - May 16, 2004 07:38 PM (GMT)
^ Yeah, but I wouldn't put too much stock in that list. "Obladi" is one of their best songs, not only from the White Album, but altogether.
Anyway, I've gotta think of a few that people make fun of that I like:
"Cant Fight This Feeling" REO Speedwagon: Straddling the line between love song, and power ballad, I admit the keyboards in this are a little cheesy, but in a good way! I got so much flack from a couple friends for listening to it, though.
"Invisible Touch" Genesis: Many people just hate "pop" Genesis in the 80s with Phil Collins as the frontman - especially this. It's a fun pop/classic rock song you can dance to. What's not to like?
"Long Run" Eagles: Even Eagles fans seem to say their 1979 album of the same name was their worst. The title track is my personal favorite of theirs, and anyone who loves 70s classic rock should like it too.
"The Flame" Cheap Trick: The coolness of their early punk rock can't be denied, but why does everybody give this unique-sounding power ballad such a hard time? EVERY band was doing it in 1988. :P
Anything from Huey Lewis: Why the guy gets made fun of so much, I'll never know (it's not just the music, but his image too). He's always been the target for those "Awesomely bad" countdown lists, or people who hate mainstream rock.
I hope you've heard those songs, so I didn't just tire my hand out for nothing.
Hoverboardkid - May 17, 2004 01:38 AM (GMT)
^Actually no, sorry, I have heard none of those songs, or any of the songs anyone has mentioned. Sorry. :(
I don't have a clue what people are talking about... but no matter. :P
Mcfly_Jr - May 18, 2004 07:05 AM (GMT)
"All I Need is You" By Guy Sebastian.
Everyone hates Guy Sebastian Except me.
Blind Spot - May 18, 2004 01:01 PM (GMT)
^ I've never heard of him. What kind of music does he do?
Anyway, I forgot to add, anything from 80's Chicago/Peter Cetera.
Me & Alt were talking about pop/metal band Kix the other day too. They only had one sizable hit -- a nice, if slightly different ballad called "Don't Close Your Eyes" in 1988 -- but they had many more songs that should've been big. One was the catchy rocker "Cold Blood" from that same album. :)
Or, I also like the happy rock of "You Are the Girl" from The Cars. It was their last hit, from 1987's Door to Door. That whole album was way underrated too.

Yeah Kix were a very underated band from the 80s. Their style was a combination of more hard rocking like AC/DC but it combined the 80s Hair metal too.

Various Styles. He was the winner of Australian Idol. Everyone likes Shannon Noll (Runner up of Australian Idol) instead of Guy.

Bumpeddy bump.
Alot of people seem to rag on Journey's "Don't Stop Believin", saying it's corporate rock or wimpy, etc. I'm sure y'all have heard it on the radio (I mean besides me & Alt) :D . It goes like this:
"Strangers. Waiting. Lookin' down the boulevard. Shadows, searching in the night. Streetlights, people, havin' just a fond emotion. Hidin' somewhere in the niiiiiight."
Or anything from Sammy Hagar's incarnation of Van Halen. I like DLR much as anyone, but Sam had some great songs with them too, especially the semi ballad rocker "Dreams."

Bumpy bumpy bump...
I really like the music of Daphne & Celeste.
No, honestly!
I also like "Everything I do I do it for you" which came 14th in the Channel4 worst singles list.
But I do have a 'thing' for crap singles, as I mentioned in a previous post.

So you're the one!
My brother always rolls his eyes at the kind of music I like - for example I enjoyed;
Ooh Ah, Just a Little Bit - Gina G
Anything by Steps
Sacred Trust - One True Voice (I must have been the only one who bought it!)
Oops I did it Again - Britney Spears
Party For Two - Shania Twain
And many, many more... :D

Argh that song, it gets in my brain and I can't get it out! Some songs you only like because you hate them so much don't you?
Come Sail Away by Styx... the funniest moments in South Park are when Cartmen randomly bursts into this song
Eastwood McFly - September 10, 2005 02:38 PM (GMT)
Pretty much everything I listen to at the moment is hated by many from my area.
I mean not many fans of Fifty Cent and Green Day like The Beatles, The BeeGees, The Jackson 5, Simon & Garfunkel, or America. (etc.)
Then to top it all off I am in love at the moment with the 70's. Not many friends of mine want to do "The Hustle" over "Lean Back" or that "1, 2 Step".

Well David, I know at least one who would. :)
I'm a pretty sizeable fan of 70's music (not as much as the 80's, but I still am!).
That's the main decade of "classic rock" -- I listened to alot of that growing up (also, from what I recall, some late 70's songs were still on hit radio in, say 1986. Kinda like how modern stations will still play certain 90's songs now).
Off your list, my favorite would be America. Other 70's artists I like include Steve Miller, AC/DC, the Eagles, Steely Dan and Bob Marley.

"Where'd You Go" by Fort Minor. I love it, Kath hates it!

Hmm. I'm gonna have to track that down!
I like Mike Oldfield. I've never met anyone else who does! :)

I love those songs! "Can't Fight This Feeling" introduced me to REO Speedwagon and now I have 6 of their albums. I also have every Huey Lewis and the News album (apart from their recent Greatest Hits one) - this isn't just because of BTTF, as I have not rushed out and bought every ZZ Top or Michael Jackson album, but because I liked the News' music. :)
I also like "Do The Hustle", Eastwood McFly - although admittedly I first heard it on Futurama of all things. :)
bttf44 - November 17, 2006 09:37 PM (GMT)
I love Styx, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Huey Lewis and The News, 80s Chicago and Genesis, and many others. They seem to be hated by many classic rock purists. It's like you're in No-Man's Land with those artists. The classic rock purists hate them because it's 'corperate rock' - and the trendies hate them because it's 'old music'. They get lambasted from both sides.
Jennifer Mcfly - November 18, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)
i like the song open arms by journay and nothings gonna stop us by jefferson starship most people my age find that kind of music corny but i like the older stuff conpared to the crapola of today!
bttf44 - November 18, 2006 02:23 AM (GMT)
I like We Built This City by Starship. Many seem to dislike that song, for some reason.
needles1987 - July 6, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
I like Sublime, but so many people I know hate it.
