Title: Uhm.. Where The Heck Am I?!
Description: What to do when the bus arrives

RynnaDragonheart - July 21, 2008 01:29 AM (GMT)
Okay, let's just say this easily. I've never been to Salt Lake. I've never been to a convention. I'm from a town of 300 people. I will be attending this year with three others, and coming in via greyhound..

Does anyone know what I should do from there to get to the convention? Is there a certain place I'm supposed to go to get on a bus or something? I'm trying to figure this all out beforehand so I don't end up on the side of a highway going "..Buh?"

Hi,
First off, good idea traveling with friends! The greyhound stop is about a mile away from the con hotel. What time are you getting in? The trax train gets within two blocks of the Sheraton, but if you're getting in late it's not a great idea. Check rideuta.com to see how the trax schedule meshes with yours. It'll actually take you in a circle though... it may be a better idea to call City Cab and just take a cab(cost should come up to less than 10$, including tip... and that's the high estimate). If you do call a cab remember to tell them if you have a lot of luggage and that you have 4 people, just in case they need to send a bigger car(they have minivan's as well as the usual sedans).
Especially because you'll be tired, and want to save your energy for the con, and you'll be unfamiliar with the territory, I really encourage you to take a taxi or the train to the hotel.
Something else you might want to think about are what kind of food you'll want to be eating(we do have a place that delivers pizza all night long in town) and just ask the hotel staff if you need directions to anything special. Most of the con staff are locals too, but they might be a little... distracted. You could always ask both!

Have a great trip, and we're looking forward to having you!

Thanks,
Aleatha

Hey there, I'm Teddy one of the many con staffers if you need help with directions or just need to know somewhere to eat I'd be glad to help.

Thank you guys very much. I'll be talking with my friends about all this, and deciding what the plan of action should be very much in advance. I'd just walk, but it would be difficult.. I'm not in a wheelchair all the time, but I'm disabled and have some major problems with my legs and feet and back. I'd be a zombie out of costume there. xD! I'll be sure to drop by more often as questions pop up.

Otherwise.. This bumpkin is working out how to do the right images for her hopeful first sales table, and how to act partially civilized instead of a full on tourist drooler.

Just to share my perspective:

I come from out of state, and have attended every year so far. In the past I've used the Greyhound + walking combination, the Greyhound + taxi combination, and the Greyhound + Trax combination. What works best probably depends on your physical condition (although the roads are flat & relatively easy), and on what time of day you come in, but I just wanted to add my vote for the taxi option. It costs a bit more, but I think that's $$ well spent. ^_^

Good luck with your table, & enjoy the con!

How many of you will be coming in your group? I just might be able to pick you guys up depending on the time you get in.

Ooh, do you know which trax stop it is? (I might have to use frontrunner&trax to get there one of the days ^^')

I thank you all for your worries and comments.. But sadly, I and my group cannot come this year.. The reason? Well.. We can't afford it.. None of us, can. My husband and I are out of jobs and barely scraping by as it is, and now I need a wheelchair more than ever. So, it's a catch 22. The cash I'd have tried to earn at the Con to buy said wheelchair is the money that I can't afford to spend. x.x I'm setting up a donation drive.. It should be up and running officially by Sept. 29th or so.. But this is the webbie for it and the information with.

Again, thank you all for the conscern. :) But we just weren't lucky enough to meet you all quite yet. Feel free to e-mail me, or keep in touch otherwise. Much love!
