Title: Banzai Cosplay Battle?
Description: Interested?

Pan Pan - April 9, 2008 07:51 PM (GMT)
Hiya, this is Shannon/Pannon from the Banzai Events committee! We've got some fun stuff in the works for 2008, but I wanted to get some opinions from attendees on events they enjoyed or new ideas, that sort of thing. For THIS poll, I want to get opinions on doing a Battle Cosplay event like we've done in the past.

I know, for various reasons, the event kind of floundered and didn't actually happen in 2007. However, if there's interest, I'd be willing to try to get it to happen for 2008. I've got some people to help me run it, but I'd rather not get a game going if no one wants to play it, right? Soooo, if you guys want to bring this one back, please let me know! I'd like to find out if there is interest before requesting time slots and investing time devising battle systems, etc.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, here's a quick run-down:

Players (in cosplay) sign up for the event and get to dice roll for "battle stats." Once those are determined, the players will be placed in a single elimination "tournament" style battle, where they will "fight" against other players. All battles are decided by dice rolls for hits or misses or blocks, etc, and then the actions are depicted by the players on stage in sort of an "Active Time Battle." In other words, you get to "fight" people while acting "in character" as your cosplay. The winners would get some kind of award or prize and everyone gets to watch and be entertained by strange battle pairs... like Inuyasha vs. Cloud... etc...

Thanks for your time! And if you have any questions or concerns, please list them here or feel free to PM me!

I really believe that Battle Cosplay is one of the funnest events that any con can have been to. It's depressing that we were unable to hold it last year due to last second complications and the illness of the one running it, but I don't think thats any reason to miss out on the fun this year!

All we need is a good system and someone who knows how to DM well XD (yay for D&D!)

I really enjoyed watching the Battle Cosplay in '06. I was really sad that we didn't get to continue it in '07, because I was all ready to beat people half to death with my umbrella of DOOM. But, I will support the Battle Cosplay for '08, because I really liked it. n.n

I had a blast doing it the year before and it made me sad that it had to be canceled last year. My friends all love that event.

Sounds fun!

Yes... Poor Virgil caught pnemonia. =.=

I love Battle Cosplay. =D I think it's a great idea to bring it back, though I wish we could throw people through auditions. =.= Like... most of the Sunday Battles at Oasis were SO boring because people were not acting at ALL. You just were watching them emotionlessly hit one another back and forth. Lordy.

I'd love to see it, but it needs better execution then what occurred at AB07. Pre-reg such as Friday morning, or even before the con via e-mail/forums for example. Also limit the number of participants. Say 16 or 24 teams (depending on time alloted for the event, speed of battles, and number of players per team).

The battle system needs to be fast as well. Jeremy at Oasis kept the ball rolling, and everyone who got signed up got to go up. Also the battles were a bit more intense since there was like no downtime between attacks.

Some bonuses for good acting could be incorporated by adding small "buffs" such as a minor heal to their HP, or increased damage for the next attack, or a bonus to their "charge level" used for super attacks.

Just my 2¢.

Tee hee sounds like fun XD but I agree it has to be done better than last year. ^^

I never got the see it the two years I have gone.Last year I went to the thing but it never happened. I would love to actaully see one move smoothly. One thing from a sectators point of view is to have them do all the stat rolling before the event starts, as people previouly have said, to even have a sign up sheet for it before hand so all the peliminary stuff is done in advanced, even if it is the day before it will most likely speed the event along. I really want to see one so let us hope it goes better this year and that no one gets sick :D

Eh Virgil's system for last year was amazing, and efficent for keeping the game going with little down time [due to characters.] Of course he tried to have online reg and well no one really signed up but a few teams.... But any who this would be perfect fun! I wish that Virg can run it again because him and celi have been scheming up a plot that would be uber-tastical fun..... but that's just my opinion, who would be running it?

Pan-Pan, I believe, but I think that depends on how busy her schedule is. (she is a very busy person during Banzai, after all.)

We're working on a battle system now, we've actually been on it for a while, but wanted to get input on it before we actually decided to do it. Didn't want to go ahead if there was no interest.

What I can tell you is that there WILL be a time slot set aside ahead of time for people to sign up. There won't be sign ups just at-the-door. This is so we can roll stats and be prepared so that when the event rolls around we will be ready to go! I should have some info posted about it soon. :D

Vergil - July 4, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I'd definitely be interested in participating this year, should I be able to attend.

Last years DID have pre-reg, but I only had 3 teams even email me. And the sign ups on Friday that SHOULD have happened, didn't due to my being sick and my team not getting the ball rolling as planned.

As Celiywn said, there was a system, but... yeah.. Due to everything it kinda caved in on me. I'd definitely like to see it back and see what someone else can do with it. =]

Hopefully I'll be around-- I'm in CO now, with a cosplay group here, and I know that if we can make it, we'd definitely be interested! Hope all the planning's going well.

gcnkirby - July 10, 2008 05:44 AM (GMT)
I'm definitely in for it this year!

Missed out last year. . . Even though we all stayed in that room praying for a long time. I was so hoping!

But there's always this year!!

As soon as we get more info, I'll so be signing up my group =]

Kibachan - August 21, 2008 02:18 AM (GMT)
Me and my freinds are in!!!!

mormongirlbyu - August 23, 2008 07:06 AM (GMT)
Must we have a group for this or can it be solo? I'd like to participate, but I don't wanna bite off more than I can chew, so I'll have to see how things work out.

I know it's still early, but is there any kind of schedule for the two days so we can know whether or not we can participate in certain activities. I don't wanna get my heart set on something and not be able to because of something else I'm dying to do, you know what I mean?

This topic is actually out-dated. I should probably lock it, but the information you're looking for is on the Super Smash Banzai Brawl topic, since that's the events official name, yadda yadda. Anyway, teams only for this event. You need two people.
