Title: Betta foods
Description: good list of betta food choices
bettaqueen - September 1, 2006 08:42 PM (GMT)
I found a good list of betta food sources
A few foods to feed, so you get a quick answer:
These are foods I feed, I know there are more out there, but I'm too lazy to look em up
~ Hicari betta pellets
~ Peas as a laxitive or once a week preventitve *plus most betts love em *
~ Tropical fish flake: Not too many bettas like these, but there are exceptions
~ Betta flake: Even though it has a seafood smell, many bettas will gobble it up, as will other fish, convienetly crushed all you need to do is poke a hole in the tin cover.
~ Freeze Dried Bloodworms: not a great staple food, better left to a treat
~ Frozen/Live Bloodworms: I have heard no complaints from people or bettas about using this as a staple food
~ Brine shrimp: Although baby brine shrimp *BBS* has more nutritional value, adult brine shrimp can be fed as a conditional for breeding bettas.
~ Micro worms: A great baby food
~ Misquito Larve: Want all your fish to go nuts? this is the food for you! Newborn larve can be fed to older fry, and adluts will be greedly eaten by bettas and other fish.
There are many other foods, and brands, and types of foods that bettas will eat..But as the questions come up, they shall be answered further.

I hope Annericebowl sees it or Bella , cause I think they would probably pin it for us and the others
LaBella - September 5, 2006 10:09 PM (GMT)
Well right now, there aren't enough topics for it ot be pinned, but if it needs to be, it will be done.

I like to feed frozen Mysis(sp) to my females before spawning and the pair after. I did this for my last spawn attempts and I had greatly increased numbers of eggs. I think it is too fatty as an everyday food. Has anyone tried the betta crumbles from Ken's? I just bought some so I can't say if I like it yet or not.

HIya yeevia i been using them bout 8 months or so i got like a pound of the stuff it comes in a clear vacume packed bag thick ply bag i keep it frozen in the freezer cause i have so much enough fro a dang farm hehe :OO :OO :OO i just take a little out and put it in a old micro bite pouch and keep refilling that i can send you a sample if ya like i got more than enough. it sinks so they have to get used to that but they do.the fry crumbles float though so they eat it off the top:)

I need to buy some of the growth crumbles. I must have missed that in the online catalog. :( pooh. The thing my adults LOVE are live white worms. OMG they go predatory searching every crannie for them. :) My 4 week olds are eating grindals once a day now, and they are finally eating something dry(betta crumbles)

I recently added live Blackworms to my bettas feeding routine. These fish are so spoiled. They get fed Bio gold pellets, freeze dried bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, live blackworms and flakes they steal from the small fish or frog pellets if they have frogs in the tank.
I did notice none of the bettas would touch flaked food till they got tank companions who ate it.

Well, mine eat snails now...
wierdos.
Smitty - October 10, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
LOL, mine eat the snails too!!!
I'm glad someone else here feeds their Bettas blackworms. We found an already established black worm culture with 2.5 gallon tank and all, for sale on Craig's List ... so now I definitely know we'll go get those.
BTW, what do you feed the black worms???
LaBella - October 10, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
High protein fish food would be good, based on what I have read. Made over into a powder..
I gotta see pictures.. I am trying to figger out how to culture mine. The linkage I have I don't care for their methods.. there has to be another way.
