Title: got my first wild famale roundtail
Description: Phoebe-wild female roundtail
bettaqueen - August 21, 2006 02:53 PM (GMT)
I am so excited .I was at petco Saturday returning some food that Ginseng my male veiltale would not eat. So I took a gander over at the betta area . It was a toss up . There was a beautiful purple veil tail male & blue crown tail . But when I saw this red female round (plakat ?)tail just had to have her. She is so cute and little and is a crimson red. Very active little girl. Took her home and got her acclimated to the tank and she ate the same night I got her. I have her in my bedroom on my nightstand next to the bed in a 1/2 gallon container. She is so pretty. I don't have a dig cam so you will have to wait for pics. I believe she is a wild round tail. Although she might be a plakat. I decided to name her Phoebe.

at least I think she is a round tail. Kind of looks like the pics of round tails I have seen on the net. But her tail resembles a spade tail too without the pointy end
leafgirl115 - August 21, 2006 10:02 PM (GMT)
well as soon as you get the pics post them!!!
bettaqueen - August 21, 2006 10:10 PM (GMT)
that is why I was hoping someone had pics they could post of a female veiltal, a spade tail and a plakat. I could probably tell by looking at the pic. I don't have did cam so maybe never that I get pics. I tried with my 35mm and they were all too blurry .

after looking at some of the pics of female veiltails people have on here she may be a veiltail with a round tail or a veil tail /plakat cross

No problem, always glad to help in any way.
bettaqueen - August 25, 2006 02:56 PM (GMT)
her tail is round and has at least 8 little spines that i can count. It is hard to count because she does not stay still for long. her tail is not like the fan kind . It is round
LaBella - August 25, 2006 04:30 PM (GMT)
Well with 8 rays, she is not a VT. VT's have at most 2 rays.
4 or more, you are getting into the realm of HMPK, trans PKs, and single tail females.
bettaqueen - August 25, 2006 04:59 PM (GMT)
maybe if I could see a pic of a single tail female I could tell. yeah there was a female veil tail at the store with her when I bought her and her tail does not look like that veil tail's. It is more of a round shape then a fan though.

Well that 2 ray thing is the general law, not just a rule of thumb.
There was something that was posted from leafgirl that showed a link I gave her about different female tail types.
If you can find that post, that would be great, because this camera is giving me a head ache, and I can't think anymore.

thanks Bella. leafguirl's post of the site is further up in the thread. Her tail looks similar to the spade tail one but not as big( since that is probably a male in the pic -that would make sense) . Her does not have a point on the end either. So I am assuming she is a female spade tail. Her tail looks nothing like the veiltail one. I will have to do some web searching to find pics of a female spade tail to be sure.

o.k. I found a fish that kind of resembles her. look at the redddish female in the pic. her tail kind of resembles this ones but is is a little rounder than that one and she is deep red all over

I know with this post I will have posted twice in a row, but just had to give you an update on Phoebe. I was inbetween apartments and had her here at work ( something my boss did not like) and one of the housekeepers here at work ,just loved her. Everytime he would come in at night he would go by her container and talk to her.He kept asking to have her since she was so cute and active. My boss was telling me to take her home, so I gave her to him. He has tropical tanks as well and put her in a tropical community tank and he said she is just loving it. He asked me to look up and give him more info on bettas. I think he got bitten by the betta bug cause he wants more of them. I am getting another new male blue veitail betta this weekend. Someone on Craigslist is giving him to me. She has so many tanks that she says he gets neglected.
leafgirl115 - October 18, 2006 07:51 PM (GMT)
I hope she likes her new ownere:) And i cant wate to see pictures of your new betta thats coming.
LaBella - October 19, 2006 02:47 PM (GMT)
Well that kind of double post is not frowned on.
If at least 2 days has gone by, and it is an update on your last post, I know I will not mind.
I am happy for your girl. Send your new betta slave.. I mean convert here, you know we'll take good care of him, lol.

She is doing great. Her new owner is someone here at work and he has her in a tropical tank with some guppies and he says she is loving all the space and her new friends. He says that when he feeds her now she will jump up and try to get the food out of his hand
leafgirl115 - December 4, 2006 10:27 PM (GMT)
:D Thats great that she is geting along with her new tank mates and owner:)
LaBella - December 5, 2006 03:08 AM (GMT)
That is wonderful to her.
Females are just so fiesty.. and I'll bet she helps keep the guppy population down as well, lol.
