Title: Shipping fiasco...

hakkobetta - July 19, 2006 03:12 AM (GMT)
So about three weeks ago I bought this beaut off of aquabid, I named him just looking at the picture, lol, so I knew I had to have him!

Well, there was a mix-up, and he didn't get shipped to the US for about two weeks, but that was fine with me, I didn't mind waiting :) I had changed my paypal address, or I thought I had, to my home address, and not my university campus address.

Wrongo.

Today I got a call from my campus, which is about 100 miles away from me, two hour drive from my house, telling me a package with the words "Live Fish" had just arrived. When I asked where it came from I was like "OH CRAP MY NEW BABIES!!!"

I was totally freaking out, I mean there was NO way I could possibly get down to ECU anytime soon to pick them up, and since you have to have a photo ID to receive a package, I was screwed pretty much. So I begged the lady at the desk to ask her supervisor if my friend who's down at ECU for summer session could come pick up the package. I gave them her name, and description, they said they'd keep the office open another fifteen minutes if she'd hurry.

Luckily for me, I caught her at a good time, so she ran down and got them for me :D I promised her a movie or dinner in exchange ^_^

She asked me what to do with them, so I told her to pour them out of their baggies into cups, and wanted of course to know if they all made it through shipping alright.

And get this! Instead of JUST the pair of HMs I was getting through shipping, I got the matching female to go with the HMPK male as well!!! :WOU

My boyfriend's going down tommorow to pick them up for me! I can't wait to see them!!!! :WOW: So luckily for me, I had contacts at my alma mater to pick the fishies up, otherwise I was afraid they were going to be belly up by the time I got there to get them!! :WOW:

So, in the end, the fiasco turned out alright, and I got an extra fish in the process!! :Y

I'm very glad everything worked out for you. And grats on the freebie. She's sounds fantastic!

hakkobetta - July 20, 2006 03:52 AM (GMT)

Guess what! The one my friend told me was a female (the match to the HMPK was what I garnered from her info) is actually a male PK! He's GORGEOUS. The marbled female has eight rays *drool*, she's totally taking over the sorority tank. Is the biggest coup de gras that I've seen! She's sooo beautiful.

The HMPK male is sooo tiny! I wub him already, he's sooo beautiful, and such a sweetie little thing. He's already swimming up to me.

The half-moon freebie is another story though, he's not doing well AT all. He's very poorly right now, looks like he's got stress related SBD, breathing slowly, will swim, but still acts lethargic.

He doesn't look good at all :OPPS: I'm not quite sure what to do with him. I also got a bag of black and red sand with them. Is this blackwater extract?

Synirr - July 20, 2006 08:40 AM (GMT)
Hmmm, no, blackwater extract is a liquid... is it a live food culture, maybe?

I'm glad all your babies got to you safe and sound, thank goodness! :D

Betta Belle - July 20, 2006 02:55 PM (GMT)
I am glad you got your guys safe and sound.
Give the stressed guy a little time to get himself together.
Quiet, dim lights.. It is not just the travel, but the water change, ect that he is reacting to.
I am sure he will come around soon.
I don;t know that he was properly acclimated, fish pple don't tend to think of these things... Maybe you should try reacclimating him, put him in a small container in the aforementioned quite dimlit area, and every hour or so, give him a few ounces of your water. while taking out an ounce or so of the water he is in, when the container is filled, upend it into the area you want him to be in.
But again, keep him quiet, and in a darkened area.
This might help him.
Best of luck to you, and that blue boy is a beauty!!!

hakkobetta - July 20, 2006 04:23 PM (GMT)
Luckily for me, I think the half-moon might pull through. When I checked on him this morning, he was sitting upright, as in horizontal, underneath the java moss, hiding, breathing better, and in general, in better color.

I was very very happy!!

I really hope he pulls through. He's really not getting much light at all. I have him wrapped in filter batting, lol. His whole tank is swathed in it. He's only got about two and a half inches of water right now, so I'm hoping that tonight I can do a real water change, acclimate him properly (I don't think my friend and my boyfriend thought of that when they were changing them all around)

I acclimated them all before I put them in. I took a little water out of their cups, then put new water in, and vice versa.

The big PK boy has been named Kim, after my friend who rescued them from the post office for me :OO and the little girl has been named Remy. She is SOOO gorgeous. Xavier is the king of the 2.5 minibow right now. He looks so big in that picture, but he's SO SMALL in real life

I've also rush ordered some Atison's Betta Spa to see if that will help this HM boy on the road to recovery as well. So far, so good. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers!! ^_^

Betta Belle - July 20, 2006 08:07 PM (GMT)
HEY!!!
I alreadt GOT a REMY.
Remy Le Beau to be precise, so you have to rename yours, lol

hakkobetta - July 20, 2006 10:40 PM (GMT)
Mine's a girl though, isn't yours a boy? ^_^

Half-moon made it through the night as well!! :lolo: He's doing a lot better as well :lolo:

Betta Belle - July 21, 2006 02:17 AM (GMT)
Yeah???
And what is with that, bettas are hard enough to breed as it is... trying to give the girl a complex????
Now when she wants to fight and not put out, you know why,

hakkobetta - July 21, 2006 02:45 AM (GMT)
Haha! Remy can be a girl's name too, lol!! I knew a horse named Remy once, her registered name was Remington

I'm trying to get a good pair with one named Remy and the other named Gambit P:DE

hakkobetta - July 21, 2006 04:51 AM (GMT)
Don't worry Betta Belle, lol, I've actually changed her name

I was watching her in the tank, and one side of her face is white while the other side is black. As I was watching, I realized that to some girls she is super sweet, and to others she's mean and will bite or attack.

And I thought, "What a two-faced little thing!" And it stuck, lol! Two-Face was my favorite villain from Batman as well.

But I've still got my Gambit :OO

Betta Belle - July 21, 2006 08:25 PM (GMT)
LMAO, just what I needed, something to make me laugh, lol.
Two-face is my fav batman villian as well...
But you could have kept the name Remy... My boy is red, lol your girl is marble... I don't think anyone would have gotten confused, lol.

And Remington is a boys name

The half-moon is doing great now! The plakat male I got extra has had a little bit of a cloudy eye, but I'm dosing with Maracyn1&2 to fix it.

I never noticed that the half-moon had fungus growing on him  No wonder he wasn't feeling good!

I treated with Jungle Fungus Clear and Maracyn1&2, he's already perked up, colored up, and started eating with gusto. I'm watching the fungus fall off as I speak! I think we're almost in the clear with the new guy :WOW:

Betta Belle - July 22, 2006 09:48 PM (GMT)
:Y :Y :Y :WOW: :WOW: :WOU :WOU

hakkobetta - July 31, 2006 03:52 PM (GMT)
The half-moon is completely better!!! :D :D :D :D :WOW:

I moved him into a four gallon kritter keeper today next to Haruki. Haruki's like a volcano...any little thing and BAM he explodes in a fury of flying fins. He's the most angry little bugger I think I own... ^_^

He flared yesterday though!!! He has clear gill plates B)

Karah's_Mommy - July 31, 2006 05:36 PM (GMT)
That's wonderful news !!

hakkobetta - August 1, 2006 04:47 AM (GMT)
When I moved him to the new tank, I added a floating piece of plastic grass, in hopes that he'd build me a nest.

Welp, checked this morning! Big, thick, beautiful bubble nest, all over the piece of floating grass. He was patrolling too! I hope he'll be a good daddy ^_^

bettaseverywhere - August 8, 2006 05:12 PM (GMT)
Man thye are beauiful!!!And im glad hes doing betta :P

hakkobetta - August 14, 2006 05:51 AM (GMT)
Unfortunately, I lost Xavier :( He jumped out of his tank because somebody moved the barrier that blocked the hole while I was on vacation... (I had family members taking care of my fish)

I found him behind my dresser. I'm absolutely distraught :( I loved this little guy to pieces, and now he's gone!!! :( :(

At least I still have my other HMPK Kim, and Gambit and Two-Face.

LaBella - August 14, 2006 07:25 AM (GMT)
I am so sorry to hear that.
