Yes, more babbling about bugs and such.
I got my starter cultures yesterday. One batch each of Micro, Walter, and Banana worms, and a starter of Vinegar Eels.
As you know, I have my method for VEs. I use half apple cider vinegar, 1/4 apple jiuce and 1/4th water, with a spoon of water.
Right now, this culture seems to be doing quite well.
I only made one litre of the mix. When these guys are going along nicely, I'll divide it and make several more cultures.
I couldn't find my yeast, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue.. I'll be looking for it tonight.
The walters are growing the fastest, with the bananas coming in second, and the micros a long third.
I can see them wiggling in there, but they aren't climbing yet. OK ONE whole micro worm is climbing, lolol. But the rest are having fun wigging.
With all of these cultures, I opened the bag they came in, and poured out the mix, which was the typical oatmeal mix. I then added water to the bag, swished it around, and poured that into the containers, and swished THAT around until the oatmeal and water were mixed well.
I then took instant mashed potato flakes and sprinkled it over the top until the media was no longer watery, and in face was a little dry. But I knew that they would dampen, and sure enough they did.
I expect by the time the babies are free swimming, the walter worms will be ready to collect from, and then in a day or two, the banana worms and then the micros, which is VERY interesting in that from what I have read, that is the order they should be fed based on size.
And after that BBS FTW!!!
