Title: question about betta behavior

samurai - March 27, 2008 12:48 AM (GMT)
so i recently bought a male betta. he doesn't really seem active. he'll swim around slowly and sometimes completely just stays still motionless. is this normal?

or should they be swimming around most time and being more "active?"

Bettas should be quite active. But i have some questions first.

How old is the betta?
When did you get it/where?
What size tank?

Also is the tank heated? Do you have an idea what temperature its at?

Hi Leafgirl,

I bought it on aquabid. it's from thailand. supposedly 6 months old. currently it's in a 10 gallon tank, filled with about 6 gallons. tank is heated at about 75 degrees F.

your thoughts are appreciated. :)

like leafgirl alluded, theres probably a reason he's inactive.
But, as my disclaimer, my first betta Graikos was rediculously lazy and he lived to be 2 1/2. He rarely moved except to eat. He wouldnt even flare at his reflection. *shrug*
Maybe some bettas are just lumps.. :coverlaugh
I agree with leafgirl though.
Is he eating alright?

I would also up the temp to 80 see if that helps. Diet could aslo be a factor as sothernbelle mentioned.
