Title: Glow Fish!
Southernbelle - February 26, 2008 05:32 PM (GMT)
I bought a cute little guy yesterday. Mike, from my LFS, called him a glow fish. I'm still kinda new to fish keeping besides that of bettas, and, in all reality, I've only been keeping bettas for a couple years... ANYWAY... I bought him to give Remy something to do instead of bite his tail.
He's a little tiny neon fish about -------------- long or so. I'll post some pictures of him when I get my camera working. Mike said glow fish were relatively a new thing, like in the past year or so. My boyfriend named him Teacup. (Why? I dont know. He wanted to name it and gave me two choices. Teacup or Spatula. lol I love him.) Anyone have them or heard of Glow Fish? Just curious.. They are CUUUTE  (and they glow in the dark... imagine that.. hehe)

I had some, my angelfish thought they were food. Being as they have no natural camo, they were a good snack for her. Don't be surprised if yours becomes food.
Also, they are technically zebra danios which do better in groups. And they have been GE'd (genetically engineered) with coral DNA to be bright and photoflouresce.

Those glowfish sound like pretty cool guys. We can't get them up here in Canada... I'm thinking that next time I'm down to Maine I might try to find some to bring up, just for a conversation piece. My son's room has a 12 Gallon Hex tank that is empty right now - I think it would look trez cool with a school of Glowfish in it :clap

I havr mixed fealings on them... as they are altered. They also have a shorter life span because of it.

I agree with you leaf girl. I didnt know about the alterations until i had bought it, seeing as i was unfamiliar with the breed. I've been looking up zebra danios online to learn how to take care of them. Hopefully I can give this little fishy a good long life. :D

BUT!!
At least they mutate the eggs, and not jab needles into the adults, I would feel a whole lot better if it was just possible to add food coloring to the eggs and then have the fry hatch out as thus **wonders if that would actually work...**
EASTER!!
sry..random..
