The guy at the store really pissed me off...
The store was DISGUSTING I mean, sick puppies, filthy tanks, cockroaches, the works....
I was going through the freshwater tanks, looking at all the sad faces, when I came across some tiny little fish, my heart jumped into my throat because I'd never seen bettas like this before, but its just one of those instinctual betta keeper moments when you just know what they look like...
I counted out and there were 5 of them, I brought the owner over and decided that I wasn't going to pay 3 bucks a pop if I was going to get them all...So I got all 5 for 8:00
The MORON!!!! tried to tell me they weren't bettas, and that he thought they were barbs!!! doesn't he know that in order to be a barb they have to have barbels!!!! RRRRRRRR!!!!
BUT I held my tongue about the roaches until after I had the fish in my hands, his excuse was that the boxes to our right had them, and than all places have them and that he couldn't spray because it would kill all his animals and that that would make him sad!! He said *lied* that at one point they had a lizard loose in three and he was eating them....So, I asked what happened to the lizard, first he said he didn't know, then she said they caught him, then he miraculously remembered that a woman who know lots about lizards came in and that he gave it to her....
don't get me started about the fact that he thinks bettas will fight to the death, and that he would rather see them in his tanks than have them in their own containers...*the bettas in his tanks were MISERABLE!! Horrifically hurricane like waters with huge bubblers, and filthy overflowing filters! nippy tankmates!!
I thin asked his opinion on convicts and he told me about the time that a woman brought in "it must have been 100, no 200" convict babies and he said that he wanted to throw them out back, but a woman came in and that he gave them all to her....*grumbles*
I'll post pictures in a few...

AAAAAwwwwww they are so cute
this is just my opinion but I think you have 1. croaking gourami's(trichopsis vittatus) or 2. Dwarf croaking gourami's(Trichopsis pumilis).
Either way they are so cute I would have taken them home too in such awful conditions!
Good job!

I tried to find some, but they just didn't look the same...
They are quite active, so I think I'll release them soon in a few days...

* goes in to a cutesy fit *
I'm actually happier that mine are those!!
I'm looking for something harder to breed, how much do you think these guys usually go for??
I can't wait to try and breed them... :WOU :WOW:

I released them in with the betta juveniles, and it was like watching dogs meet, they circled each other and then meshed together, they are quite happy and active, and in a week or so, I think when I jar up another male betta I'll put them into the 55 community..
Thanks so much for clearing this up for me, the funny thing is that I thought they acted more gourami, but I had never heard of a gourami with this body shape *at least, i don't think so...* either way, I'm glad I picked them up...if they breed for me, you guys are welcome to fry..
Now, they are an anabantoid so would I go about breeding the same way?
I've done some research and found that they breed similarly, but none of them mention a cover for the top of the tank...instinct tells be I should, but is it unnecessary?.. I might just do it like bettas anyway...it would make me feel more secure...
I think I've counted out 2 males, but I've got to watch them a little more to be sure, the rest i think are still too little...
