<----- NOT A JUDGE... BUT...

His lines seem VERY clean. If you can condition him more to do a "full" flare, I think he'd be absolutely gorgeous.

He'd make a good "friend" for my Angel. Same colors. But she's a VT, and some people don't go for VT's... personally, I lub them... but to each his/her own and all that.

Any resent pictures of Galaxy?

Overall he seems to be a nice fish. Not too much fin to over balance him, good color, decent fins.

Good strong body, he is built to carry more fin then he has. Nice clean topline, and an excellent torpedo shape.

Going deeper, I like his coloration. He has a good balance of color to non color in his body, which is critical for a marble and can make or break the best finned fish. I would like to see his color act stronger, as it looks as though he was trying to be a grizzle and changed his mind.

He has a decent caudal. I would like to see more spread, and a sharper edge though. Also, the lower edge of the tail seems to be turning in, for some reason. He looks to be an 8 ray, trying to pop another set, but he just doesn't have the spread. Hearkening to color, I love the chevrons in his tail.

His anal and vents are very nice. I would like to see more forward thrust in the anal, as well as rear thrust, but all in all, that is a very good anal fin, the only detraction id the last couple rays in the rear of the anal, (hush, no pun was intended), are a bit shortened. The vents are nice and clean with no breaks or bends and are quite impressive as they do tend to damage fast, especially in lighter colored fish.

The dorsal is an alright dorsal. There is nothing exactly wrong with the dorsal, and it has some highlights, but people that know me know I am picky about dorsals.
I would prefer to see a broader base on this dorsal as well as a sharper leading edge that thrusts forward towards the head. Be that as it may, it is not a horrible dorsal just not ideal to my eyes.
if I may add, I love the chevrons in the dorsal matching those in the tail. I could only wish they manifested more in the anal.

It's OK, I saw it was an old topic, but this is the check point, and I some how missed this.
These are not just for people to see what the IBC thinks about their fish, but to learn how to see quality, or lack of quality in their fish.
In any show animal, the worse thing for anyone to have, is to have blindness, whether it is kennel blindness, or betta blindness.
But helping you all to improve your eye, we help bettas as a whole, and you guys then join the IBC, and not have to play catch up.
One thing I am hoping to do by convention, (or at least after convention), is find out how to get permission to reprint the standard here.
