Title: Full Spikes!

After medicating my friend Splenda for his unique fin/body rot, I returned him to his home tank to heal up. After two days he started to pinecone, and a week later he now has fully extruded scales, he is lethargic, and seems he is at the end of his days, he still eats and he doesn't appear to have a swollen abdomen(like bettas with dropsy). What should I do? (pics not included because they are not necessary to describe what I see)

Sounds like dropsy. Only thing I've had work was a round in Betta Revive.

If he's still eating then try epsom salt. Give him a few long-term baths and add a bit to his tank/bowl.

I had a CT that had constant dropsy and I did this and his swelling always went way down. He ended up living for anther 6 months before he got it while I was on a two week vacation and died.

It doesn't always work, but it's worth a shot. Good luck.

Definately sounds like Dropsy. This isn't an actual disease but more a result of illness and stress. The fluids in the fishes body cease to be be processed by the kidneys. Put him in epsom salts and hope for the best. Sometimes the kidneys can get back full function after short periods of time, sometimes they never regain renal function and in essence drown. That's why betta keepers hate Dropsy. Good luck and hope this helps.

I agree that it may be dropsy now. I have seen dropsy before, but never in the fashion in wich the scales extruded before the body starts to bloat. I have some maracyn-two and some dropsy-med food, and erythromycin for follow-up. What method has a better success rate, super-med or epsom salts?

At this point, you have nothing left to lose, I would do both, The salts help to pull some fluids out of his body, and the meds to help correct what is causing it.
There is also on bettysplendens and waynesthisandthat a methodology that one person used that managed to cure dropsy.
It is in the helth section of BS and in the betta section on waynes site, but I can't rind them atm.
