We have a pair of Smaragdina Bettas that we bought at the FCB IBC show / auction, and we've been sooooooo anxious for these beuties to spawn. We've waited ... and we've waited ... and we've waited!!!
I did a 60% water change in their tank (the male and female live together full-time), and then a thunderstorm came through. Probably a combination of these two events, really got the male all fired-up. They both darkened very much, and the male is in full-flare. Boy he's a little bolt of green lightening himself!!!
Anywho, we FINALLY have a Smaragdina spawn happening, RIGHT NOW!!! WOW, there's going to be LOTS, and LOTS of eggs ... she's virtually raining eggs!!!
We're so tickled and excited ... we're finally going to have our very first Betta Wild Type spawn. YES!!!

i got dibs!!!! hehe are you planning to sell some fry please let me know

:LOL: Well as long as the eggs hatch you will both have a pair reserved !!! However since DownSouthBettas was at the auction with us she gets the first pair as she asked first!! I hope they breed some more as we have four people already wanting a pair :WOU Daddy is pacing underneath the flowers that his little bubblenest is built under and if it moves he flares, we are just so excited that they spawned :WOW: :lala

You know I always wanted smaragdina!!! If I can make the space I'd love a pair too! Hah! What space?

Sure Ani !! We don't mind sharing the daddy is watching his nest and trying to decide if he wants to spawn with his ready to spawn female again :LOL: She gets to the nest head down and then he flares and she just runs, I can't tell how many eggs yet but I know he picked up all the ones that managed to land on the bottom and caught more than I could count :WOU

:WOU ::OMG:: I just seen this little baby fry still in its egg sac trying to catch the brine shrimp and getting mad cause he/she couldn't eat it through the egg sac!!! :LOL:: I'm so excited the non existance bubble nest had me worried but he moved all the floating plants to one side of the tank and that is where the fry are. On the roots of the plants :blink: ;) !!! So now I gotta go get my VE culture ready for these babies!! :WOW: :LOL: :lala

I guess we'd better start a list for these guys! This will be the first time that we've had babies from a spawn spoken for ... especially before they even hatched, LOL!!!
