My dream wild is the gold phase macro, I think they were burma, bruni, something like that. I saw them at a presentaion Mark gave at convention..
They run like 200 a pair, lolol
Ani - November 6, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
I am absolutely hoping I can breed them. I'm totally scared of course since I know macrostoma are hard to breed let alone keep alive. But I have to try. And of course Erma you have first dibs on babies if I can make some!
A gold phase macro? I've never seem pictures or even one in person. I bet they are lovely! Of course regular macrostomasc cost a fortune already!!!

LaBella - November 6, 2007 09:01 PM (GMT)
Oh they are amazing. Wher Marcos are red, they are gold... My mouth dropped to the floor, and I turned to Nate, and at the same time, we said, I want!!
Super rare
and I am in no way ready for regular macros, let alone a subspecies that costs twice the amount, lol.

ENVY what?! :OO
:congratulationtoyou
Ani - November 13, 2007 05:06 PM (GMT)
Total Bummer! :(
The macrostoma didn't come in the shipment. Though the channoides did come in. Mark will be ordering them again with the next shipment of fish in two weeks.
He's holding the channoides for me until then so I only have to pay shipping once.
I'm so sad! I know they'll be here eventually, I just have to be patient!
Cross your fingers they make it next time! :prayers

I think it's really cool that there are those of us willing and wanting to increase the population of the Wild Type Bettas. Most people seem to not want to have these, much less breed them, I guess because they don't see them as being as pretty as Splendens. However, I think they ARE pretty, and they are unique from the Splendens.
Ani & Erma, now you know we wanna' trade Wild Types with you Ms Ladies :D
We're working hard to produce Smaragdina and Falx Fry, and we also want to expand into the other Wilds as well.
DownSouthBettas - November 15, 2007 09:54 PM (GMT)
But of course!!!!!!!!!!!
I will have Mahachai to trade and (hopefully!) Betta Brownorum..........
The brownorum come in tomorrow so we'll see how that goes, at the rate I'm going
I might run out of room!!!
LOL :OO :OO
I wonder if I can start throwing away stuff in the garage? :D
lol :coverlaugh
LaBella - November 16, 2007 08:47 AM (GMT)
Part of the reason, I think, is few people get to see them colored up, and looking all bright and pretty.
That is why I am experimenting with raising my mahas with splendens, to see if the splendens can help make them more out going.
I am also going to be b=picking for my breeders those who are not so shy.
So, maybe I am fussing with the natural order of things a bit.. But honestly, that is why so few people seem to be interested in them..
You hear it all the time, oh, but they are so dull, they aren't pretty..
WE know it just isn't true, but how are they to know? They can only go what they see, and what they might have read in a book, or seen online.
Smitty - November 16, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)
LaBella, we didn't forget you ! You know we're trading with you too ;)
Heck, if I still looked at any Betta the way I used to, we wouldn't be breeders, because I used to think the females were ugly ... but now I can spot at least something pretty in about any female Betta.
Granted, the Wilds don't have the finnage of the LF Splendids, and maybe don't have the color of the Show Plakats, but they do have a beauty all their own
Ani - November 21, 2007 02:27 PM (GMT)
When I first got into splendens I didn't really think wilds were much to look at either. But then I got a pair at an auction. And they colored up at home and were fantastic.
Also I could raise the babies together and not have to jar them all apart. That was something I was really sold on! Someone who does have a lot of space can practice breeding bettas and raising them with little commitment to a million jars!
It's interesting about the mahachais...I've found with some of them, if you jar them and keep them carded, they will flare immediately when exposed to another mahachai or another splendens. And even when not exposed the males are much more colored up than in the group tank. I've got one guy who just goes crazy gorgeous the minute he sees another fish! Not every fish is so cooperative but the majority are!
So I've been thinking that maybe the shyness and unwillingness to flare, at least with mahachai is a product of their group living. If kept individually, or maybe in smaller groups, you'd probably see their shyness reduce. At least that's my theory!

East Coast Bettas - November 23, 2007 05:02 AM (GMT)
I need to see pics of these guys! *prod*
I dunno. I always wanted some Mahachai from the beginning. I guess it helped that the first issue of FLARE! I got, had an article about their plight. I finally took the plunge and got a pair at the Indy convention... Hey Ani, guess whose they were? Thanks for getting me hooked into the wild bettas. I am more than appreciative as many other I know, who have benefitted from your breeding of wilds.
Did I mention... PICTURES?! :WOU
Ani - November 23, 2007 02:41 PM (GMT)
Glad to have helped in the addiction! I've tried this past year to send some to every show and put them in the auction. That way they get into more people's hands and there is no way they'll become extinct!
I have two boys and a girl isolated right now and they are on the list of pictures I need to take. Hopefully I'll be able to take pics this weekend (I have a house guest right now, so doing anything other than feeding and manditory cleanings is difficult.)
But he leaves Sunday so I'm hoping to take pics then!

Just heard from Mark again today and his supplier confirms that he has Betta Macrostoma in stock! So in theory, Mark should get them in the next shipment. So many next week I'll finally get macrostoma and channoides to play with!
:WOW:

Congrats! I love Macs, they're such pretty fish.
Ani - December 11, 2007 08:46 PM (GMT)
Sigh...there was a problem with Mark's supplier's email so the Macrostoma still aren't in yet. But Mark swears his order is in now, so they should come next week. I'm getting tired looking at their empty tank!
Ani
P.S. Finally took some pics of the mahachai last night. I'll download them today and post them soon!
Ani - December 18, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
Mark has the macrostoma!!! :WOW:
He is shipping them, along with the channoides to me today! I should get them tomorrow.

Yipee! Make sure you don't forget us sitting around waiting to see pics of them! At least let us know if they arrive safely. It's been such a long wait. Who needs Santa when ya got Mark?
Ani - December 19, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
Fish are here!!!! :hawaiibanana :hawaiibanana :hawaiibanana
The macrostoma look great.
:OMG:
One of the channoides didn't make it though. :(
I can't tell if it's the boy of the girl so Mark's going to order another pair tomorrow and I'll pay for one of them. I'm going to be up north next week so I can pick up the pair in person at his open house.
I'm still at work so I'll take pictures if I can tonight when they get in their tank.
