:Y :WOU :WOW:
Now I can't swear to it, but just now when I was looking into the tank with the Falx pair in it, to see if they'd eaten, I may have seen 3, maybe 4, little fry!!! Of course when I tried to show my wife, I couldn't find 'em ... figures!
BUT, I really think we just MAY have Falx BABIES!!! I sure hope we do!!!

I am thinking your fish like your water.I hope you DO have falx babies.. Dick did ay they breed like rabbits, so perhaps you can help take over the world with small mouth brooders, while Ani's mahas take over the wild bubblenester world, lol.

Thanks! Yep, I too really hope so! The female sure looks pregnant ... again(?), so hopefully, just like the old dog said when he got his tail cut off ... "won't be long now!", hehehe!!!

Dick said they breed like rabbits.. But one thing that a few mouth brooder breeders told me is that you'll usually have to pull the female when the male is holding, and keep her out for at least a week after he releases, because he won't eat while he is holding, and can starve to death.
The weeks break you'll want to feed him up fat again.
Now this is secondhand info, mind you, I have never had a mouth brooder, lol.

Well, unforunately, our male jumped up out of a half-filled tank, onto the top, and under the light, and crispied himself like a frenchfry. Broke our hearts!
So, I called Dick Houston, who breeds them and entered these into the show, and asked if we could buy another pair, and before I could explain what happened, he already knew, LOL!!! Dick asked me "he jumped out, didn't he?". Seems these are notorious for doing this, so you HAVE TO make sure the top is completely covering the entire top of the tank, as they will find any hole and jump through it.
Anyway, Dick just happened to be making a trip that routed him right through Knoxville, so he said he'd bring us a pair. We met Dick, and we got a pair of the off-spring from the first pair we'd bought. Dick said they would need to grow a little more before they'd be ready to spawn, for us not to get disappointed if it took a while.
Well, I can't wait until Dick gets back home so I can call him and tell him that the mom has spit eggs at the son, and he cought them!!! We should have LOTS of Betta Falx, as we have the one male in with two females (mom and sister).
Just so happens that I'd also performed a 60% water change, and a thunderstorm came through ... I truly believe this works for spawning, as BOTH of our Wild Types are spawning tonight!!!

I was so sad hearing the male jumped! :( But now I'm happy to know you got another pair and that they spawned. :WOW:
Mahachais are also notorious jumpers so I know your problem! I try to keep there tank sealed off but every once in awhile you just find one on the ground and you just can't figure out how they escaped!
Bettas, spendens and wilds seem to love it when there are sharp changes in the barometer. A storm really gets them in the mood!

I have to say it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen, she did the little s dance and then he would flare at her and then she puffed her jaws out and spit the egg out and he would catch it. All this happened in a matter of seconds By the time I got the camera on they hid Then I seen him and he is already washing the eggs as you can see his jaws moving Amazing to say the least and then I got to see him jumping out of the water and showing off for the females. He nearly hit the top of the tank cover Ok I am done rambling now, :WOU
