Title: What should I do with Dad?
follourdestiny - October 14, 2007 12:56 AM (GMT)
Here's the update...
I have newly hatched fry that are almost all freely swimming. Dad seems like he is still doing his job but i'm worried he might munch now that they are swimming around. Should I continue to keep him in the tank? Or is it time for him to retire?

My latest batch of fry are 4 weeks and Daddy is still with them. However, with my last batch of fry I was planning to leave the dad in with them but he started munching as soon as they were free swimming. If you're too nervous to have the dad in there, then pull him. If you think you can keep your nerves under control then leave him for a bit and see how he does. Some males do ok...some don't. That's just my opinion.

Thanks. I'm going to wait and watch him. Probably pull him tomorrow after I condition his tank.

Well... bad news. For the last couple hours ive seen no movement in the spawn tank. they are all just laying on the bottom. I'm sure that they didn't make it. Devastated. :( :( :(

If they turned white and swollen looking thyey are gone, but if they look like regular fry, then they are just ;azy.
Though I have to admit, I have had less luck with lazy fry that lay on the bottom than with vigorous fry that stay up in the nest mostly on their own.
