and,yet,they sell him for $20 :(

Just because something is expensive doesn't mean it's desireable. That is a genetic flaw that, that breeder is taking advantage of. I just wonder how many of the spawn mates with similar afflictions died. Now I do know of some US breeders that are breeding for a shorter bodied fish but not in quite the sae fashion as that fellow. BUYER BEWARE!

LaBella - October 13, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
This is more than a genetic flaw that the breeder is taking advantage up. He is also taking advantage of possible ignorants that do not know how much of a flaw that is.
There is almost always going to be a market for oddities and such like, but this goes beyond that.
This fish on one hand is probably a happy little fish.
On the other hand it is at worst a cull, and at best a pet..
BUT this fish is NOT a breeder in any shape, and the price being asked for it is outrageous.. But as Nate said to me recently, you can ASK any price.
The hard part is getting it, and fortunately it looks as though people are staying away from this fish.

I dunno about judging and all that... but that fish is UGLY!!!
I woulda fed him to my bf's bros oscar for sure.

Palor - October 14, 2007 06:59 AM (GMT)
If someone gave me that fish I would happily keep it as a pet. No way I'd PAY for that poor twisted mutant.

bettaqueen - October 15, 2007 02:52 PM (GMT)
is that a spoon head flaw?

East Coast Bettas - October 15, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
That's a shovelhead effect, yes. Bascially it's the spine compressing on itself if I am not mistaken.

Styx - October 15, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
:/ That is very severe, for even the shovelhead.

LaBella - October 16, 2007 05:59 AM (GMT)
Yes, it is by far, the worst I have EVER seen.

DownSouthBettas - October 16, 2007 04:09 PM (GMT)
:OMG: I haven't seen a fish with a defect that bad in a long time. Poor fish! :(

Styx - October 17, 2007 12:25 AM (GMT)
Agreed LaBella, and they have been popping up a LOT on Aquabid as of late.

blu3_sTr3akz - December 8, 2007 05:52 AM (GMT)
that fish would of won the ugliest betta contest first place...

samurai - March 13, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
what causes this flaw?

Southernbelle - March 14, 2008 01:34 AM (GMT)
Wow.. that actually made me gasp. I'd HAVE to name it Quazzi. Poor little guy... :( Is that just from crossing too many brother sister fish from the same gene pool, or what?
