Can I have an honorary membership? Sad thing is I just might make a meeting or two since my Finacee` is from Kentucky. Congrats! Are you going for IBC club status?

Me too!!!
Do you mind if I don't make meetings though?

LOL, you all are awesome!
Yes, one of our main goals is to establish our Chapter of the IBC (there currently isn't one here in Tennessee).

Maybe I should work on creating and circulating a newsletter, to keep those who can not attend meetings here informed(?), LOL!!!

To be quite honest, we haven't really decided to actually charge anything. However, if we find that there will be costs involved (like having Membership cards printed, etc.), then the Memberships fees will only be enough to cover the costs of running the organization. Plus we figure Membership dues already have to be paid to the IBC, so hopefully we will not need to charge any additional fees.

Although, once we do grow large enough as we hope to, we will be hosting local shows and such, and of course renting the space to hold those shows, supplies and everything needed to host the shows, awards to be given, etc. will of course generate operating costs, and so at that time we will most likely need to charge small Membership fees.

BUT, as it stands now, NO CHARGE, totally free to join, all you need is an interest in Bettas ... and hopefully an IBC Membership (the latter not required however).

One of our main goals of course is to have our Chapter recognized by the IBC, while at the same time also being an individual organiztion, not bound (locally) by IBC show standards, thus, we can designate our own classes, standards, AND can include VT's to boot, LOL!!! No doubt we'll need to follow IBC guidelines, so our local show winners will have a chance for placing in IBC shows ... but we don't want to be quite as restrictive as the IBC either.
Another goal is to give Tennessee residents (and others) a chance to join a "club" of sorts, where we all share a common interest ... the Betta.

Something that would really mean alot to me as well, is to be the "Pioneers" of setting Show VT's standards, so we will have a guideline to present to the IBC.
I was accused last night (on another forum, during a debate over VT's) of wanting to change the IBC already, but I assure you this is NOT the case at all! Expand it , yes, create MORE interest, yes, give even more people the opportunity to get into the hobby as well as a chance to show, YES!!! Who am I to try and change an already established organization? Not my intent at all ... I just want to further promote it, and encourage more participation.
Please keep in mind that of course this group is still in its infancy ... but, this gives us the chance to all grow together.

Well, I suggest you give a hollar to Scotty at PABS.
As the pres of PABS and former IBC pres, I am certain he can give you all the info you need.

So.. ummm... do I get to pick my fish? Or do I get what you give me, :OO .
