When your bettas are about to breed?
When you offer the pair food they normally scarf down in seconds, and they ignore the food.
I have seen this happen several times, and this last time, it was life food that was being offered, and both male and female turned their noses up at it.
That is when I said to myself, they are either both sick, or they are going to spawn later today.
Well... they are spawning, lol.
I should mention I don't make it a habit of jarring the female, and the above is more noticeable when the male and female have been co habitating in the tank together for a couple days.
When all the girls in the sorrority jump the divider "Free Willy Style" and Plato goes nuts trying to catch them all.
Does that count?
It sure does, lol.. got another one for you...
I had a male who was a bit off color. At the time, it was rather cold at my old place during the winter.. For me at least, and for my bettas too, I personally think.
BUT my heifer tank had a heater.
I put the male in what I call a floater.. at walmart, the small round bowls, they are about 1.97 each.. not the ones with the ivy mouth, just plain round bowls...
Well, I put the male in the heifer tank to recoup, and gain strength.. But every time I turned around, this one female would have gone and jumped into that bowl with that male.
Mind you, she was jumping at least an inch and half up and over.. though the target space was rather large, I hesitate to think she could have seen it and judged it, and made that jump with anything more than blind luck..
Or rather, that is what I choose to believe.
Free willy jumping has led me to lower the water levels to 3 inches below rim of the tank.
I feel you, this tank was about the same, but she wasn't actually jumping out of her tank, she was jumping into a bowl that was put IN her tank, that contained a male she found VERY attractive..
Though to be honest, they didn't get to see many males.. I kind of picture them like that skinny spinster hen in the Foghorn Leghorn cartoons going A man!! A MAN!!
That is certainly how they acted.
