I got a new halfmoon male today at my local petco. He is cherry red and I named him Chili. I was shocked that my petco had not only delta tails but halfmoons too. And a red at that. I took a pic of him with my cell phone and emailed it to myself but it did not go through I will have to try again later.

Yeah Halfmoons are quickly filling the market it would appear. Which is a great thing for the IBC and sites like ours. Can't wait to see the red! most likely an import too! The only thing that I would like to see is how well they survive as compared to the Veils in a Petshop type setting and as a pet at home, since it's widely proclaimed that HM's are not as hardy as veils.

they even had deltas . here is a pic , grant you it is a very lousy one not showing his bright red color or him flaring. I took it with my razor camera phone when I could catch him. He has this habit of hiding behind the filter so I got to catch a pic of him when I can

he made a huge frothy and thick bubble nest yesterday already

Wow he is a really nice red! I'd love to see him fully flare! I'm sure he'd be amazing! And all this from a petstore!

wow what a pretty little guy I am hoping to get a Halfmoon myself lol probably as 24th birthday present to my self this year in December. I had no idea they were getting so popular and could be found at place like Petco..I have seen Crowntails but not Halfmoons I will have to keep an eye out for em. :thankssign

I know I was shocked to see one at my local Petco too. Actually if you live anywhere near St. Lous ( I know you said you live here in Missouri too) I got him at the Kirkwood one on Lindbergh

Kala, you can sometimes get lucky and find a nice HM at a pet store.. You usually have to look very carefully at the fish, and make sure they are not Super Deltas.. which is what most fish actually advertized as Hms are.
You might even find a young male in the females.. Ruth did, and he turned out to be a VERY nice HM.

Thanks Wild and eveyone. I was suprised to find such a cutie at Petco. They even had a melano hm I was temted to get but Chilli won that decision.

Well, next time you go there, come back with a list, cause I would not have minded the melano.. I would have even sent you the bags etc for shipping, lol.

I too have had pretty good success in finding nice fish from the 'marts...

Like the pair in my sigg, and that CT male that I had in there before...

I have found Hms, blacks, orange, DT, CT, and my wal-mart really only carries CT females ^_^
