Title: My Dropsy Boy, Aristotle

davenia7 - August 30, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
So, for those who don't know... Aristotle has been diagnosed with dropsy for 2 months. In the last week, it's been getting progressively worse. He's going home with me this weekend... for intensive care (another attempt at meds... I've already medicated him 4 times with no resolution) and quite likely to be euthanized.
He's sooooo huge and now he's not leaving the top of the water nor is he eating anymore. I think the swelling is affecting his swim bladder a little bit and it's got his head tilted up bc of the swelling.
Soooooo, I guess he might have to be put down this weekend.
:(

I'm sorry to hear that! Dropsey, as you know, is such a difficult condition to treat. It's one of those conditions that has a variety of beginnings. Once it gets to the point of the fish not being able to regulate osmoticly there's little that can be done. Not impossible, but a difficult one. If fish could only speak out loud to tell us what hurts!

Well, I knew it was coming... so I'm not that tore up about it.
I've done everything I can do at this point.... so, I'm probably gonna put him down tomorrow.

He passed on Monday... He will be missed.
I don't think I'm getting another work fish... just too much to deal with at work... and everyone gets sooooo worked up when they die.... and then I have to explain to 30 people what happened to "our" fish!!
Some of the same people that pick on me for my fish obsession are the ones that are the first to ask what happened to aristotle.
