Description: Which is better for fry tank

Tomorrow I'm going to petsmart and I need something to clean the tank so I want your opinions on which is better at cleaning a tank full of betta fry, moina, and java moss; the cory cats or the ramshorn snails.

I would pick Corys, snails produce alot of waste.

Thanks I got four albino aeneus cories; my god they were so expensive; 2.79 per cory and thee other types went all the way to 4.50. I remember they used to sell little ones for $1.00 each.

I like my Briggs.. yeah, they do make waste, but they also produce infusorians, and the waste can be bastered out.

Watch your language Bella! :JK

I like snails as well. Anything but the neusance pond snails! I have seen those willfully attack a fry.

Are brigs the ones with the latin name: Pomaceae bridgesi?

LaBella - August 27, 2007 05:27 AM (GMT)
Yup yup. I have them in light striped purple which should give me more of the same and ivories when they clutch again.
They are the good snails, they don't get too big and won't move down your planted tanks.
The Canas are the bad snails, unless you're into that kind of thing.

I was told by the petsmart employees that p. bridgesi will eat plants and algae only and not clean up the tank so I don't know.

whatever petsmart employee told you that about Brigs is incorrect. They do not eat plants and they do not prefer algae. They prefer steamed pieces of vegatables or turtle treats. go to this website for info www.applesnail.net Also with brigs you have to have a male and a female to make babies, other snails are hemaphradytes and don't need the opposited sex to reproduce. Angel my big ivory snail does not make that much waste. The two little spixis I have in with my female poop like crazy
