bigphunny - July 13, 2007 05:59 AM (GMT)
ok so I was feeding my fishies and I just noticed in my 5 gallon cory tank I have some eggs on the glass about 30 it looks like, so how long will it take them to hatch, and will they eat them most likely? if i don't take them out, there are 3 cory's in there I think two females and a male, anyways I'm mostly just excited becuase It makes me feel like I havebeen taking good care of them, I have had them almost a month july 22nd, I don't really want more fish , but the idea of baby cory's makes my heart sing :Whisssss :WOW: yay eggs :hawaiibanana

Is it sand substrate or gravel in the tank?
If it's sand or bare, yes, you may end up with babies.
If it's gravel, you probably won't as the wigglers will probably sink in the gravel and not make it.

So, I guess you're blaming this one on us too.
:JK
Afterall, we were your inspiration.

:congratulationtoyou
You're gonna be a grandpa.

I have to say, this marble has excellent coloration, and a good 50% split between it's color, with good separation..
However, though the dorsal has that nice straight leading edge I love, the rest of it and the other fins suck.
OK, I like the ventsm, but that is it, lolol.

bigphunny - July 14, 2007 05:15 AM (GMT)
Sorry bella I couldn't get him to Flare, his cadual is much nicer I swear. :OO

LaBella - July 14, 2007 06:00 AM (GMT)

The last time, I got this look...

SandyMushCowgirl - July 14, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
:OO :OO You're too funny Bella.. And that's a good thing... :lolo:

Good job bigphunny.. Where did you get them? I sure wish my cories would spawn. :( Good luck with the eggs.

Mumusuki - July 14, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
My cories obviously don't love me enough to spawn. :(

bigphunny - July 14, 2007 08:11 PM (GMT)
Hey Guys, I got them at the pet smart, and there in a 5 gallon with almost a bare bottome tank I have large rolled smooth stones scattered around, there are three of them and a betta in there, I don't know what prompted them to spawn after only three weeks, the only thing i do is I feed them mostly Attison Betta starter its for Juvie fry but they seem to love it and with the filter it sinks almost immdeiately, also Sometime betta flakes, i have pellets for them but they make the water cloudy, so I only feed once a week, also I change 75%of the water every three days, becuase I like to ;) Don't know if thise factors have anything to do with tehre spawning so quickly, or maybe its becuase I think I have two females and one male, so maybe its like bettas and there competing to be chosen, who knows, BUt I did take 5 eggs in put in a net breeder with Java moss liek betta4me suggested  just to see what happens the rest still have not been eaten, yet, Like I said I'm letting nature takes its course. also for some reason around this place I have never had a problem getting anything to spawn :OO there must be some
edited : to Add 6hours later ,ok so I'm a Softy and couldn't stand the thought of them getting eaten so I set-up a 2.5 gallon for them I took water from the 5 and 3 java ferns and Two big clumps of java Moss and hand rolled off Individual eggs and laid them on the java moss, anything else I need to do, Oh i also added a air stone for circulation, Ok so we will see what Happens, ertility Goddess trinket hidden somewhere in my building. YIKES

Mumusuki - July 15, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
I am sure your frequent water changes are a big factor.

pojoborneo - July 16, 2007 06:19 PM (GMT)
Am I the only one that can't spawn cories? That's it, I'm going to get a whole bunch and create a breeding colony in a 20 gallon long, that's my new goal... next to my cichlid project that is!!!

SandyMushCowgirl - July 17, 2007 12:11 AM (GMT)
Well, I have ten in a 20gal long and they haven't spawned yet. :(

LaBella - July 17, 2007 12:39 AM (GMT)
Soooooo......
How long before they hatch??

shadowelite951 - July 18, 2007 12:46 AM (GMT)
They usually take a little more then a week to hatch. And when they do...it's really exciting. I remember when my cories had eggs. Got a dozen babies, none of which survived. :( They can be tough little guys to raise. Make sure you put the babies in a tank no deeper then 4-5 inches. When they're young they need their labyrinth organs to develop...therefore they need the shallow water. I put my guys in a large net, gave them fresh water and a good chance to get air. Most people recommend putting the babies in a container with a weak air stone...and do aggressive water changing. Oh! Microworms and other sinking foods are needed. They're catfish! It's not like they can swim after vinager worms or brine shrimp! :P

Good luck! :lolo:

bigphunny - July 18, 2007 04:47 AM (GMT)
I think this is day 4 , I'm not reallly into raising babies at the moment. I had stopped all spawning around here, but the universe must want me to rasie these guys so i will try hard, I have attison betta starter and mini bites and FroZen BBS, i hope that is Good enough  I wonder if these eggs will even hatch :( i will keep everyone posted.

Your's are still a little young yet. Give 'em two or three months ..... then watch out!!!

nervil - August 25, 2007 12:56 AM (GMT)
It was the water changes I got a bunch of Cory's and wanted to raise them nothing happened but they spawn when the water temp is cooled. So did they ever hatch for you and how neat I never even saw eggs. Good luck I hope they did.

bigphunny - August 25, 2007 10:19 PM (GMT)
hey nervil, no they didn't hatch <_< but they have kept laying eggs, I just let them eat them, I've lost interest in tryingto hatch them :P

Purple_Betta - August 26, 2007 03:59 AM (GMT)
Cories are born with only a certain amount of eggs so unlike bettas they will use up all their eggs and the cories you buy or get from anywhere usually were bred a couple times in a tank by the breeder then sold to the pet store so they usually are either eggless or have very little eggs so when you buy cories look for the smallest. If you get eggs from cories DONT IGNORE THEM!!! LOL because you probably won't get too many chances to get more eggs. If you don't get eggs from cories it's usually not your fault it's just that the females have no more eggs.

bigphunny - August 26, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
GREAT <_< now I feel bad i let 100 eggs or so go to waste :( bad daddy :chair

Purple_Betta - August 26, 2007 05:27 AM (GMT)
Well, no don't feel bad because there are most likely a whole population of hatched fry that you didn't notice and cory eggs are extremely hard which is why you can pick them out of tanks directly. What you should do now is to put mashed up egg yolk and microworms in the tank so that both the adults and fry can gorge on those do those feedings twice a day and you should have cories soon, btw they grow fast. Cories love microworms so they may spawn again soon because they spawn at certain times and spawn alot within that time and then stop and then spawn another time, until all there are no more eggs in the female.

Betta Blossoms - October 4, 2007 01:24 AM (GMT)
 Where did you hear that corys have a set amount of eggs?

I've never heard of that...and I've bred alot of corys..

Oh, and nice peppered cories  I used to have one little one, but I gave him, and the other 14 corys to my sister to deal with :OO let her have all the suprises ^_^

Purple_Betta - October 4, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
I heard it from a betta podcast from bailey brothers, petfishtalk.com. Cory catfish episode.

bigphunny - October 4, 2007 05:00 AM (GMT)
Hey guys well they have not laid anymore eggs, But i just love them, they are not shy at all, and i have two ghost shrimp in there which I love watching they are so aggressive and fearless, The shrimps are just cool to watch move around. :clap
