I'm not quite sure what the color/pattern is. His color is a very deep red, burgundy really. I think he might be a butterfly, albeit an imperfect one. I don't know what one would call the light colors on him. His body's pink but his fins end in a white/transluscent blue.

Red marble with an incomplete BFpattern. The other you are describing, I can't see in the pics.
I think that he has awesome coloration, and I would certanly think about breeding him if he were my fish.

The other color is just the base color I guess. White I think?
The frosty tint comes in just behind the gill plate and spreads over the red blotches at the top of his body, and spreads further into his dorsal fin. It stops at the base of his caudal but the fin tips finish in a white and translucent blue color. Some parts are completely clear. Just wondering if that would be considered "white". I'm not up on all the betta color types and definitions.

He is a really pretty boy. He was a PetSmart fish so I don't know what his lineage would be like. If I spawned him, what female might I use to? A butterfly? A Marble?
Would be fun to see what kind of surprises popped up in a spawn from him. ^_^

bigphunny - June 13, 2007 08:18 PM (GMT)
hey I know excatlt what you mean about the translucent blue my lestat has that to, if you wnat to spawn him, let me know my friend sherry "wildmagiclady" has the perfect female for him she is a platinum CT with spots on her fins, same dark burgandy color on fins. If I was breeding I would buy her for sure.

Morbid - June 13, 2007 11:49 PM (GMT)

I think what you are seeing is a irridescent overlay
Looking at the pics, I see the color OVER the red.
I was just discussing the same thing on one of my red fish, and we determined that he had a bit of steel irridescence on top of his red, which is why he looks like he had silver irrids on him.
YOUR fish I think may be similar, but instead of steel irrids, I think your fish has metallic. I wonder if it may be a pastel/metallic overlay. That is something very interesting going on colorwise with your fish.
I still don't see the blue tips, though I don't doubt they are there.
The blue would probably indicate the possible prescence of steel metallic..
The completely clear parts are the cello (cellophane) effects of the marble gene in action.
You could go well with red marble, red BF, red cambo, or cambo, and still get good fry form him.
That female that was posted would be an excellent choice.

Wow, info overload! I'll need to take a minute to process. :OO

You've been so much help LaBella! Is there a source that has all the betta types and definitions listed that I could browse around on? It would be great if there was.
Maybe I could use my red cambo CT female to spawn with him but I wonder if the dark blue hints in her fins would give me more undesirables than desirables. I'd like to keep the red color as clean as possible.
Otherwise I'll just looksee whats available online. ^_^

Haeun - June 17, 2007 11:56 PM (GMT)
WOW, that boy is DROP DEAD HANDSOME! *drool* Maybe you should try a HMPK line with him. I sure as heck would buy a pair if you do! *faint*
