Meet my boy, Rusty. :D

His ventrals had been nipped to nubs by my BF's ADF's. They're growing back though.

Trying to "blend in"

When I got him he a solid white opaque but my BF took him to work for a few months and when he brought him back his body had gone pink and developed the red tinges in the fins.
What would would one call this color/pattern?

I think it's cute and very fitting of his fussy personality. He's quite sensitive but a sweet boy. ^_^

he's goregous, he just got a little "red" wash with age,no big deal this happens alot with this color i like it personally :T I would call the pattern butterfly

Most opaque and platinum bettas will gain red wash as they grow older. There are some breeders that cross with yellow, in hopes that they will get yellow wash, which is more difficult to see.
Lots of the opaque/platinums will also lose the opaque factor, letting the steel that is their base color show through, giving them a smokey look.
I also would say that he washed up in a BF pattern. Very lovely looking boy.
Mind if I ask where you got him from?

He's saying...
"You can't see me... I'm invincible..."

(Yeah, I know that's the wrong word... that's why it's funny!!!)

Thanks everyone! :D
The fussy boy is so flattered!

Thanks so much for the input on his color. I really had no idea.
What's the difference between an opaque and a platinum?

He was a gift from Myles of Hotcichlids.com, along with two siblings and a trio of Ivory colored Deltas. Unfortunately one sibling turned out to be another male, unusable for breeding, and the female managed to jump out of her tank (blasted tiny holes!).
Myles tells me he supplies some of his bettas to a local woman who sells them on her website.

He totally is! It makes it that much funnier cause he's afraid of his own shadow! :OO

Thanksyou! ^_^

The difference between an opaque and a platinum is that an opaque is a flat stark white, and platinum is a metallic layer over opaque.
Same fish, but the plat is plus one, so to speak.

These two are platinums.
Since a picture is word a thousands words, I though it best I show you, lol.

The opaque pics are from BettySplendens, the plats are from Great White Bettas.
