I've got 5 or 6 males like this for sale. PM me for details. Got to move, and don't want to transport anymore than I have to. Good chance to get some nice fish, cheap! They are from same spawn as the above fish.

Sorry no females.

Have any more marbles?

Me loves marbles.

East Coast Bettas - July 23, 2007 03:18 AM (GMT)
Yes Sherry needs some marbles, apparently she's lost hers along the way. :OO

bettadaze - July 23, 2007 07:26 AM (GMT)
That's the only one, now. The first fish is almost black now and the marbled fish was black when I put him in the pond to grow out. How do I get more marbled fish? What type of female should I use, or do I use one of the females from this spawn that I know carry marbled genes. :(

East Coast Bettas - July 23, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
Yes, Using a sibling that you know carries the marble geno is probably going to be one of your best ways to get a lot of marble babies. Good luck to you and keep us updated! :WOW:

Marble is a funny gene, when you want it, you can't find it, and when you'd rather it stay hidden, it pops up.
To get more marbles, even though all of them are marble geno, I would use those fiush that showed marble, even if they later colored up.
Even though breeding two solids will give you marble, I have found that even I bred two solids that did not show marble when they were young, the number of marbles were very small, even though they were well marked.
I would also pick those fish that held their marble the longest, and had a stable pattern longer.

Is this pick on Sherry week and I didn't get the memo or something?

You're asking for it Buddy Boy!

<_<

Thanks, I didn't like the marbled at first but now I do. Wish they wouldn't change so much, but it's kinda like getting new fish with out all the shipping charges. :D

LaBella - July 27, 2007 03:18 PM (GMT)
Yes, it is like that indeed exactly what it is like, which is why I like marbles, but it can be a pain when you have the perfectly marked fish go solid or cello on you.

East Coast Bettas - July 28, 2007 03:36 AM (GMT)
I once had a marble that formed the IBC logo perfectly! By the time I went to get my camera he had gone cello.

This ones about 3 ft deep and 13ft long and 4 ft wide. made of concrete. It's a goldfish pond and has a large 400 gal/hr pump but the water fall leaks at the top, so I put plants in and do very little to it. If the goldfish weren't there the bettas would have spawned several times by now. The plants are a dwarf water lilly and one clump of water hyacinth I bought at lowe's, and some water lettuce now. I getting ready to move from here, but I've got plans for several more ponds when I get to the new place. I figure If I spawn 4 10 gallon and dump them in around june next year, by September I should have millions of sellable fish. :Y

Wow. Nice pond. I wish I could do an outdoor "tank". Sigh......oh well. Maybe once the hubby retires and we move back to Texas........

LaBella - August 5, 2007 12:50 AM (GMT)
I know how you feel. Next year, of all goes well, I'll be able to spawn outside..
Things were difficult this summer.
But I can't even use a kiddy pool.. I was going to get a 50 gallon rubbermaid, and try it in there.
I know one guy that grows his bettas out in his POOL.. you know, the kind big people swim in??!!!
And his fish are HUGE!!!

bettadaze - August 6, 2007 11:31 AM (GMT)
In the "IBC members only" there are pics of a swimming pool full of bettas. I would love to try that with some giant and the large plakats I have. These are just little black plakats which are slow growing, I want giants as long as my hand, that would be really cool. I'm not sure if it's the outdoor thing or water volume of the pond. I think the food available in the pond has something to do with it. I might try some indoor pond stuff this winter.

LaBella - August 6, 2007 03:05 PM (GMT)
We were talking that over, and we decided it was part all the clean water, AND the food, both the natural foods, as well as the foods provided to them.
Genetics certainly might play a part in their growth.
Don't worry about slow growers.
I had a little girl that at the age of 4 months was small enough to swim into the hole of a betta condo.. You know, one of the water circulating holes?
And then inside of three months, she shot up, and is the same size as the rest of her siblings.
Of course, this is a problem if you subscribe to the breed 'em before they are six months story. I don't and one of my largest, healthiest spawns was from a male that was about 18 months when they were spawned.
I could find out exactly, but I have been up for WAYYYY too long, and that would be too much work.
