have you tried fasting him for a couple days? The peas were a good idea. Is he eating or trying to eat? My female is like that but she is pooing. I can't get her to eat peas when I need to. I would also add some salt to the water and some bettafix ( Petsmart and Petco have it) and see if it helps. It is antibacterial and antifugal. Couldn't hurt. sorry your fish is sick.

What are his symptoms??
Crowntails often have a "pot belly", Most of mine do but they're healthy and vigorous (and pooping) otherwise.

When you look down from above at him are his scales sticking out so he looks like a pine cone? If so you have a tough one to get through. It's called dropsy and I've heard conflicting reasons for it's cause. One thing that everyone agrees on is that survival is very difficult. If he has reached the point of looking like a pine cone he's probably not going to eat any way. My suggestion is to continue not feeding him for several days to a week. When fish are really sick their stomachs stop the digestive process and the food will just start to ferment in their stomach, which is probably even worse. Water changes daily. I don't know how big of a tank/container you have him in but 50-75% each time. If you have him in an aquarium or something large go ahead and move him into something smaller, like a gallon or 2 container. Be sure to get that salt dissolved in the water! It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep him in a quite dim lit area to minimize his stress. Bettaqueen mentioned Bettafix. I agree. It's good stuff. Bettas naturally feel more secure hiding under stuff. Go ahead and treat him to an IAL if you have one. If not use something like a tupperware container lid. The idea is to minimize stress so his body can deal with whatever is causing this. Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

Oh, forgot one more point that might help. Make sure he's in a warm area if you don't have a heater in with him.
Also, loosely cover his tank. It will keep the air his breathes in moister. Not sure if that's just a wives-tale, but heck, it can't hurt!

Could be! I know you tried the peas. Is he pooping? Maybe he's just constipated.

I'm a bit short on time today. I did a search for epsom salt. I remembered someone recommended it for constipation. I got as far as it's some where in the adventures of Rocky and Sassy, but I just don't have time to look any farther. I've never tried it myself, but I guess if it's constipation and they've stopped eating that that stuff helps to clean em out.

his bely did kinda go own a bit, but i never really looked at him close enough to see if his belly was natural big, but im asuming he is just kinda puddgy cuz hes all hyper and happy and flaring at oceanus(divided tank)
