Title: My First Spawn
Description: Yippeee

sandie66 - May 16, 2007 01:28 AM (GMT)
I had my first spawn. I am really kinda excited. It was more or less an experiment to see if I could do it, but I am totally ready. Even my hubby, who generally could care less about my bettas, is excited. Anyway this is the father. The mother was also a HM, but I don't have a decent pic of her. I will let you know how the fry do.

I've already taken momma out of their and I have her in jar with meds for a couple days before I return her to the sorority. I will probably take daddy out in a few days too.

Bigdaddy is pretty! What does the female look like? Oh, I hope this is a successful spawn for your bettas! Now don't go worrying about your pictures! We're together because we love bettas, not because we are photographers! So please feed our addiction to pictures! Don't forget to let us know as soon as they hatch! This is sooo exciting! :WOU

The female is quite pretty. She is white and red with the whole butterfly thing going on with her fins. She did quite well during the breeding too. She didn't get beat up or anything and is quite happy in her little jar right now. I will probably put her back in the sorority this weekend.

It'll be interesting to find out what you get from these two! Glad to hear your female didn't get too beat up.

Thanks so much. I can't wait till I get off from work so I can get home and see what's been going on in that tank today. I hope he is not an egg eater. I don't think he is. The eggs were there when I went to bed last night and they were there this morning, so hopeully everything will be in its place when I get home.

Caught my boy eating the eggs last night so I took him out. This morning the bubble nest was almost completey gone, but the eggs are floating on the water. Does anyone know what will happen? I was expecting them to hatch tonight, but I don't know now. Will they still hatch or is it a lost cause? I started another pair last night. His bubble nest is huge, so I will probably let the girl out of her see through container tonight. This is the other boy.

If your other pair spawn then you can move the fatherless eggs to his nest. He shoudl take care of them. How many eggs are still there?

sandie66 - May 17, 2007 02:24 PM (GMT)
Oh I would say at least 50 maybe even 100. Ok. I will see what happens when I get tonight. If they haven't hatched yet I will move them. How do I move them? Should I move them before or after I let the girl out for spawning?

leafgirl115 - May 17, 2007 02:27 PM (GMT)
Dont add them when the girl is in there she will eat them.

There is something elce people have done but I forget bella might know...

sandie66 - May 17, 2007 02:31 PM (GMT)
They've been there since Tuesday ( I think). If I move them after I spawn the new pair, won't it be too late? Maybe I should just give up on these eggs and concentrate on the new pair. I am so new to this.

sandie66 - May 17, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
Oh ok. I misunderstood. I should wait till the second pair spawn before moving them. Then I assume move them after I take out the female. But, still won't it be too late? The eggs will be pretty old by then. Is it normal for the male to eat the eggs? I don't want this to happen again. I guess in hindsight, I should have just left the male in there even though he was eating them. Maybe he would not have eaten them all.
