Title: Arg!
pouhamu - May 1, 2007 04:07 PM (GMT)
I decided to spawn the pair I got from Jaded that has the female everyone likes becuase I lot both of the other 2 girls that came with them. I was pretty heart broken over their loss and I wanted to spawn these two in case they also decided they could breath air and live without water. ;-) The spawn looked really good, I thought they would spawn pretty quick and they acted the part. She's too big for him to wrap. They tried for about 2 hours at which point frustration set in and they decided to tear each other up. He got a huge chunk of dorsal removed (I found the whole piece resting on the bottom of the tank). She was sitting in a corner furthest away from him spilling eggs on the bottom of the tank. I took her out when they started exchanging body shots that not only removed scales but flashed a bright bruise in her skin. ARG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This morning she still seems a little stunned but her body looks ok except the minor damage to her side. The bottom of her tank is COVERED in eggs. COVERED!!!!!!!!! I could cry all thos wittle babies. *sniff* I don't think she ever dropped eggs with the male close but I'm leaving the tank set up just in case. She is still EGGY. With him having wrapping difficulties I don't want to wait till she is huge again to try. How long should I wait? THere isn't another male option.

Sorry to hear about your bad news. You had paid for the pair to breed. Mostly when she is ready, she dropped all her eggs if not success in breeding. Yes, everyone should know that hm male has to be slighty bigger body than the female except traditional plakat since their body are longer. When any seller selling any betta as a pair, they should know about it what are the right size as a pair to breed. Now you know when you getting a pair to breed. I always asking the seller about sizes.
Have you ever thinking of getting a rosetail hmpk male? Makesure he got a longer body to cross with the hm female. ;)

In my actual spawn I didn’t see too much babies, so I try again just five days after with the same couple and I’ve gotten a lot eggs in the nest. The fist time they take 2 hours same as the second.
¡Buena suerte! Good Luck!

We recondition for two weeks between breeding. And after breeding we medicate them with betta max for 3-5 days, depending on how bad the fin damage was.
I sympasize! It took 6-8 tries before I got a successfull spawn, and now NONE of my males have half of the finnage that they did. It unfortunatly happens!

I'm so sorry about what happened! Maybe she was too eggy, I know my female isabel gets super eggy and royal can't wrap her, but her sister chippy whos the same size just doesn't get as eggy gets wrapped easily by royal.
When I got the imports in from ta in thailand those 2 were marked as a pair and therefore sold as a pair, and I think vinita knows whats shes talking about don't you yeeves?

I think she was/is just too eggy too Jaded. That is why I'm trying to give them time to heal some but not so much time that she is going to be super huge again. Honestly, she isn't THAT much smaller even with covering her jar with eggs. Oh the fin damage doesn't bother me, it happens. I have a female that can only breed her sibling because she tries to kill anything else. If I'm repeating an unsuccessful spawn I normally wait 2 weeks but that is just going to give her time to get huge again.

Maybe try again in a day or two. The eggs she didn't spill should still be ripe.
Sometimes females are just too egg fat to wrap.
The some of the ones that were in the spawning tank MIGHT hatch, if the male was stunning himself.

yeah, he didn't stun himself and the eggs are diagonally away from the bubble nest.

That is too bad.
I got a couple fry from a male that was stunning himself, and a female dropping eggs... They died a few days after hatching, but eh.. at least I got them for however long I had them.
When are you going to try them again?

You might as well fattening the male to buckle up. He still have room to grow bigger, longer and catch up the lost time. ^_^ Keep breeding the pair won't help it for now. ^_^
