Description: What to do next?
yeevia2006 - June 23, 2006 06:46 AM (GMT)
It is very exciting to get a box of betta everytime from the postman.
As for the first time, You have to know how to handle the package right.
Here I would like to demo and tell you step by step how you get things done right in order.
Today, I got my betta shipment from Linda at Colorado. Thos postman KNOCK on my door wake me up from my nightmare. LOL
They are express mail by the way and a total of 9 bettas. EXCITING!!! The steel hmpk from Dong's friend is inside. Also the fancy hm and hmplakats too. SO EXCITED!!
Here is the box!!! WOW!!! :lolo:

First of all get a small knife. Cut the top open.
Open the box like this.

Then go turn off all your light and also put down the window blind.

Then take out the top of the styro foam and put on the top like this. Makesure no lights. All the bettas been in the dark and they cannot handle the stress from bright light so suddenly. You need to let them seat like this for 5 to 10 minutes. Let them get to know that it is MORNING!!!! LOL Wake up!!!

You can peep inside. LOL

OK. Times up. :OO
Turn ON the lights and let them seat another more 3 minutes. NO RUSH! :OO
OK. Now you can take away the top styro foam. WAKE UP BETTAS!!!! without using your voice. :lolo:

Hummm... Now you can look at them from the top. Slowly pick one beg out and say "HI" :lolo:
Well, you can put them on the table like below picture. WOW here and WOU there!!!
OLALA but not shout. :P Don't forget to move your butt and do the snake dance like the betta did. LOL

OK, Now go get a tupperware with 1/3 full of aged water from the bin.
Soak all the begs into the tupperware like this for 5 to 10 minutes. (hey, you can be creative as putting them into your tank to float it) Doing this is to get the temperature from the tupperware same as inside the beg.

If you get done this PART, you are on right track!!!
Next!
^_^

OK. Now I move outside since all the betta tupperware containers are outside. You can do this wherever you locate the betta container. The best will be at the sink. ;) Since it is summer, I love outside and all the rubber bin aged water is there. Now WORK!

Now go get a scissor and a betta net. OK. I can't take any pictures in here because I only have two hands. Not fours hands like insect. :lolo: By the way, You should know how to cut off the top beg and then pour into the net.
Then put the betta into the container! DONE!!!
SEE!!! SO EASY!!! :lolo:

OK. This is about 1 gallon water tupperware. They are for storaging CDs. I drew two holes for me to feed them easily.

If you want to see the steel hmpk, go checp out on hmpk showroom. :) I am going to post there.
This section is done. So now you know how I do it.
TIPS
Here are some tips you must know.
Please don't leave your box seat outside your house expecially priority mail. The heat will get into the box and then the temperature will rise up and COOK your live BETTAS. Please put the box in room temperature.
When you got the bettas and you already open the box, please do not leave them seat in the beg and waiting your wife to come home at night to do it. Once you open the box, that is mean you are ready to continue doing the steps I showed you.
Oh yeah. If any bettas was dead, please take picture as soon as possible and makesure you didn't cut the beg. This is the proof you need to show the seller and the transhipper. Please let them know in between one hour after you got them from the postman. Have a digital camera ready.
YEs, I know, having a betta also cost you a fortune. LOL
If I can think about anything, I will keep adding in here. Right now I am fried. :OO :OO :OO
So have fun! :lolo:

I have just this one thing... What about acclimating them to their new water????
I do something similar, but I put each bag in a half filled beanie, and slice it open half way, to let more air in.
Ater the water temp spabilizes, I get the handy dandy baster
suck up some water form the beanies, and squirt it into the bag, when the bag is full, I pour it and the fish into the beanie, and THEN I pour ewverything out and give new water form the container that has been sitting right next to the beanies while this has been going on.

The water in the beg got ammonia and it is not a good idea to use or mixed into the new water. Usually if you aged the water with conditional and add IAL to soak it, ph is 7, you shouldn't have any problems. ;)

i usually acclimate them in a small tupperware (1/2 bag water and 1/2 tank water), then net them out of that and into a fresh tank, not using any of the shipping water...

I know, that is why once the bag is full, and I pour off the fish, and the water into the beanie, I pour everything OUT of the beanie, and put the fish into brand spanking new water.

It was great, that is pretty much how I do my fish...
I'll have to do one on acclimating when I get my next box in the mail, since now I have the new camera to play with.
