Title: A Question, Out Of Sheer Curiosity.

I figured this question would go here.. How many times do y'all spawn one fish?

As many times as you can? Or until they are too old and can't get up the gumption is my guess.

If you have a fish that is a good spawner, and you get successfull spawns out of them, you can breed them after two weeks of conditioning (from the time you remove the female from the tank and from the time you take daddy out when the kiddies don't need him any more). As long as the fish can take the stress, and does a good job at it, I don't see why you can't successfully breed that fish for a year or two or more. It takes more out of the female (they have to keep producing eggs which uses alot of energy, protein, and the nutirence that they take in) so I would keep the breeders on the best food I could afford if I had plans on breeding that fish as much as I possably could.

There's my blurb, let's see what every one else says: So every one else? Floor's yourse.

About the best answer anyone could give. So long as they have some spare time in between to rest and re-condition. :D

I agree.
My Hollywood is 18 months, and I have spawned him 5 times since getting him in Sept.
This male is always in at least a 5 gallon tank though.. When I move him from his fry (when they are about a month old), I put him in a tank that is set up exactly like his old tank.. he doesn't seem to suffer from depression that way..
Because I think that tending depresion (when you remove daddy from the fry, and he gets depresed), is also linked to loss of territory.
He doesn't even seem to miss the fry, and I introduce him to a new female right way. I might not bred him to that female, but it sure gets his mind off the missing babies.
Because I leave him with his fry for so long, he is constantly fed.. (don't want him thinking about snacking), like 3-5 times a day.. and never looses condition.
Was it not for the fact that I am REALLY trying to do red/black marbles, I would let him take the time to raise his fry til they were even older, but I ned as much out of him as I can get.
I think that if a male is willing, and able, and produces good fry, age shouldn't be too much of an issue..
As long as the male is healthy. And you see from the vid I posted, Hollywood is looking pretty good for an old man, lol.

Oh, and Sherry has gotten fry from a 2 year old male.

He was 2 years and 3 months! And now he's livelier than ever. He's now about 2 years and 7 months.

Alrighty.. Thanks y'all.. I was just curious, for future reference. :)

Wow, I can't imagine a male still spawning at two years old. I'm sure it made him feel young at heart. :lolo:

:lolo: Apparently so.
