Title: Water Muck
Description: My house is killing my fish

Here are some pics of the gunk I was talking about that appears on my water surfaces.
They were taken about a month ago.
I had just changed the water on the tanks less than 24 hours before hand, and this is the kind of thing I am dealing with.
Though it is not as bad as this now, there is definately a film on my water surfaces necessitating a water change long before I would normally do it.
I hypothesise this...
This place was freshly painted. I believe, and have proof, though not definative, that they used a spray attachment to spray paint the walls and ceilings.
This left microparticles in the air, which then settled onto the water surfaces of the house.
Exposure to this muck caused fish that were less genetically sound to fall ill and die, thoughs that were already ill also sickened worse, and often died as well.
Those that were more stressed from the move also sickened and died.
I believe that this is also why my daughters an I have beenmore ill recently than we have been the entirety of last year.

If what I am seeing it correct, it looks like what you get when you have hard water and fish slime... with no filtration. You can either keep you water with some movement.... Even a mini-airstone will help, or get your carbonate hardness down.
Fish who are already sick or stressed will released extra slime too.
Adding salt will help them get their slime coat straightened out.
And for fear that this might be from the painting, you might run an air filter like an ionic breeze for awhile.
BC if it's bad for your fish, it probably ain't great for you either.

I am on the same water system as from my old house.. I moved about 5minutes from my old place..
I NEVER had this issue at my old house.
Also, that tank did not have any fish in it.
I set it up to move my fry into it, and was too tired, so I figgered I would do it the next day.
The next day, I looked at the tank, and that STUFF was in it.
Oh, no doubt, but there comes an issue of finances, and I can't afford to buy a much needed air filter.
The good thing is that most of the gunk has been sucked out of the air, and into my water.
Also, this is one of those super sealed heat effecient places, and with the weather being nice, I have been able toopen my windows and doors for a couple hours a day, and some of the stuff may have been blown out.
I still get it, but not as bad as that, and it was even worse before I got the idea to take pictures.

That's truly weird looking stuff. Like some sort of silt or soap in the water. Strange.

It is gross
The first pic was taken after I had broken up the film with my fingers, and scooped most of it with the filter thing.

Am I being that evil??
Oh, we do have hard water, by the by.. not quite liquid cement, but lets just say the kids have no need for milk.. they get strong bones just by drinking the water.

you just seem upset... not EVIL!
you need some flowers.
:flower
I've seen that stuff when I had hard water and fish that were overproducing slime bc they were getting a little bit of fishy cooties.
salt and an airstone might make it better... i dunno...
i'm just saying it might be another symptom, not the disease.

Oh, I definitely have that too! I was wondering why it happened!
I do indeed have liquid concrete for water. I try to mix RO water in with the water. I guess the hard water + slime coat = icky gunk?
