I got 3 new fish all supposed to be pure irid royal blues; a male, his sibling female and his aunt. The male is definately a royal, down to his crappy red wash ;) The girls................ I dunno and I'm not sure they are pure irids even because everyone has partial masking, at least it looks that way to me. His sibling female is an odd colour. She is more a pale lilac and the rays are a ruddy colour. :huh: I need to post pics but my photo skills are crappy and they just came yesterday. It was a rough trip with leaking bags all around and the funniest colour female coming close to having NO water in her bag. I know royals can range in colour but................the girls are just funny plus I wonder if they don't carry marble or metallic because there are patches of scales that are a pale silvery colour, but not the metallic of my dragons. To say the least they are intersting. Has anyone seen funny coloured royals?

Well, wait until they color up from the rough trip. You'll be surprised at how nice they can look once they have settled in.
It is said that mask is a sign of metallic, though it has been proposed that one can have mask without metallic, by breeding the metallic out, and breeding for mask.
In another couple days, then you can make a better assessment of their colors.

thanks I know I have to wait to see what colours they really are.............. but that's too long! LOL :OO Both of the girls are real characters and I adore them already, the boy is being very mopey I tried telling him what he has in store for him in a few weeks but I don't speak fish. ;-) He's next to the girls so they can produce more eggs and THEY are excited and barred up already. I guess my girls aren't the waiting type either. :)

I got an orange in the mail once.. he was peach cambo, he was so paled out. I wasn't even sure if I was sent the right fish, lol.

Of course, you can always spawn them in the bathtub.

Now there is an interesting thought............... a bathtub as a grow out tank. hmmmmmmm As long as you put a screen over the drain water changes would be a cinch.

Of course hygine would be an issue, but in the summer, you can hang a hose on the gate and take a shower.

well I nicely asked the breeder about my "pure" irids........... The parents are from 2 separate lines from Thailand.......................... he said and I quote your fish have opaque, irrids, metallic, marble and butterfly apparently F1 was a mixed bag of fish. So much for my pure irids! oh well the fish are nice and I like different which they are. The fry will be a BIG surprise. We'll see what I get but I won't be calling them pure irids that's for sure! :OO

OK, so what DOESN'T your fish carry.. You might even get some melanos down the road, lol.
If you are IBC, I believe Dan Young had some pure irrids he was offering up from Sielg lines, but that could just be my memory playing tricks on me.

I contacted him, I'm on a waitlist he won't have anything for sale for a few months. Yeah, those fish are apparently carrying the whole shebang. What a mess!

Well, if you want pures, you might be able to talk to Seilg, Phil, or even Rob Panero, I believe they might have pures.
Other than that...
I don't know what to tell you.
Shelly has nice fish, but she will say, as far as she is concerned she doesn't have pures, though others call them that, because they will pop out BF, even though no marbles come out of her fish.. She even had one pair throw a melano, lol.
They are metallic free though.
The thing is, she, like many people has run into the inbreeding depression wall..

While I asked for pure irid they don't need to be......... they just shouldn' have been presented as pure irid when they aren't pure anything. LOL Anyway taking pics of them was very interesting. Only the boy, I've named him Sink, phot'd the way he looks. The others....... well the flash caught irid or metallic take your pick and changed their colour. Without a further ado here they are. The one that shows up most blue tends to stay purple most of the time. Wonky flashed a crappy purple bicolour, that she isn't, so I didn't keep any of those pics because I wanted to show as close to her real colour as possible.

No, I remove the pics from photobucket and reloaded smaller ones. I'm glad someone is seeing them smaller, they still show up BIG on my computer and when I refresh I get kicked out of uniquebettas. enh no biggee. So what did you think about Wonky's colour Labelle?

I dunno.. She looks like a red finned blue body bi color. Only the red isn't red enough.
She ould be stunning color wise if she had white trim.. She'd look like a salamander.
The body is a nice blue though.
The sister looks to have yellow wash, or trying to be an MG.. they might be carying NR, all of them. And that would explain the salamander look of Wonky.
And the male has wash, but it doesn't look like it would be too difficult to breed out.
But the sister.. Wonky.
Her color is odd, and intriguing, I think. I like it.
But it is odd, lol.

I dunno what they are either. ;-) Babies will be weird.

I'm not quite sure on her, and yet it is striking a chord in my memory like I should recognize it. It's really bugging me.

Yeevia, I wrote above that neither fish actually photo their true colour. Pi is really an odd purple (not dark but not lilac), Wonky is this browny/peach colour and she flashes a purple bicolor. If they were really their photo colours I'd be happy they are pretty cute. Anyway their colours aren't good but their fin quality is better than any of my other females. Their brother/nephew might be a dud as far as breeding goes. Pi litterally started blocking his aimless swiming with her body like"HEY I'm RIGHT HERE!!" Right now they are buddy/buddy but a stormfront moved in last night so maybe that will kick them into gear. It is supposed to storm all weekend I might set up another spawn but I don't have anything to spawn LOL. My opaques refuse to breed and I think it is a boy problem. What's the thoughts of my copper x Wonky? I can't screw up the line cause they have everything anyway! I'd be more interested in my platx Wonky but my male isn't ever going to breed I don't think.

You'd have to come and get 'em! :P
