When the male is interested, he will go for it. If not, better let him alone because if you put him together with the female, he surely will tear her up. ^_^
Usually the male will want to breed. If not, he might be sick.

first off i have found that some fish like humans have no interest in the other, with that said can ya tell us what you have done to prepare this pair to breed? one thing i like to do is chimmney the female in a glass tube for a day or 2 depending upon how long it takes my male to build a good nest if he doesnt build one in that time i usuall pull the spawn and try again at a later date works great for letting the male get out all that anxiety on the glass chimmney instead of your female and at the same time makes him really want her bad. (((( female behind glass singing :nananana cant touch this :nananana )))) :OO :OO anyhow lol lol try that see if it gets him interested :)

They both have their own soul mate how they look like in their head. One must be thinking of the granny and the other must be thinking of hot young stud. :OO

I never worry about my male not making a nest before they spawn. I set the spawn up w/ the female in a chimney. If I set it up in the morning I release her that nite. If I set them up in the afternoon I release her in the morning. Sometimes I just release her after a few hours no matter what time I set them up. Most of my males build a nest as they spawn. If they don't spawn in 3 days I separate them. I don't really pay a lot of attention to them once I set them up until I see eggs and then I remove the female. I've always spawned in 1/2 filled 10G tanks, but I'm going to try 19quart plastic bins to see how they work.

yeah thats what i have a 10 ga half filled my question is this could i use a pk male to breed with my ct female if she and he seem interested in each other? yeevs i swear i think my male CT is a capon my pk male is highly interested in my CT fem and she in him so should i give it a try and see what i get

Sure you can. The funny thing is since CT and Plakat are both recessive traits you will get long finned non-CT fish in the first generation unless the CT female carries Plakat or the Plakat carries CT. That a perfect example of why you can't tell what you get froma pair that you don't know the background on. If you were to sell pairs of offspring from this spawn they would look "normal" , but could throw all three fin types. Might be an interesting cross.
