Title: someone else's fish
Description: I think this is the best place for this

pouhamu - February 9, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)
Someone was posting pics of their fish. They got a lot! I'm jealous. ;-) Anyway I picked these two as the best of what they ordered. I like the first male better than the second. I think the butterfly pattern could be a lot better/more correct (am I right or wrong?)

I think they are both NICE fish.

I changed my mind, I like the second one better. I think the first one has short(rounded) first rays.

I think Yeevs wouldn't be 100% satisfied, because I know Yeevs like longbodied fish, and these are very shortbodied.

:) Gorgeous fish though.

The 2nd fish has a little bit of a high forehead, but not bad. I doubt most judges would even fault it. It's really hard to see to much of the leading edge of the caudal so I can't really judge to much about it. The color on the first one is better. The second one is a bad butterfly because the pattern is not 50/50. The amount of iridescent on the body makes it a bicolor. If I had to judge just based on the pictures I would place the first fish over the 2nd fish.

Me too even the first one body is short. ^_^

:OO Told you Yeevs would complain about the short body.

:) I think platinum is harder to find good form like that though?

Both of these fish have awesome balance!!

I thing the black one has better overall balance, probably a bit younger w/ shorter fins. With his fin length and body size "to me" he just looks more balanced. I know that the standard is 1/2 of the fin length for the butterfly pattern, but personally I like the narrower band better. To me his worst fault is that "@%#&" iridescent blue on him. It's dang near impossible to find a black fish anymore.

Having said all of that, I think the best fish overall (by show standards - not personal preference) would be the platinum. I have one myself and not only a pretty nice fish, but one of the most personable ones I own.(He had "pretty good" balance until he decided to become a tailbiter.)

Yeeves loves those long bodies.......... I think he needs to start breeding eels. :LOL2

I agree the iridescent bodies on "black" fish is a huge problem, but in this fish it doesn't really come into play since the fish is a butterfly. The black one body is a little short, but the fins match that pretty well. I think the black one looks shorter then it really is because the body is so thick. The platium's body looks just about perfect for the fins.":winner is

Black is just a tough color, no matter what it's on.

Even on cars. To me there's nothing prettier than a black car w/ perfect body and a good slick paint job, but take either one away and it looks like "crap". (well that may be overstating it, but......)

RC,

What about the darker colour on the white fish. that is really why I put it under the other fish. Yeah, I keep forgetting about the 50/50 split. I'm glad I don't like butterflies.

Are you talking about the almost iridescent yellow (metallic) on the white ? It's always a problem on metallic light colored fish. This fish doesn't have it really bad. It would be a fault, but it's a fault that almost any fish it's up against in the class will have it as bad or worse.
