Jillian wrote me a pm saying that this guy just pass away when I am ready to teach tonight. How he dead I have no clue. Jillian, you might as well explained how he died. How is the water, what you put in or anything you have done. How is his condition? I can't give you any answer why he is dead. Bettafix is not the solution by the way. They only fixed when the fins torn up. ^_^

Jillian, sorry to hear about Flame! Yeevs has a good idea about sharing info about what conditions and changes in Flames environment preceding his death. It may not be easy to write, but there maybe something in there that can help someone else. Again, sorry you lost Flame. :(

ok i will try to write as best i can to explain what was going on with him and ok basically he was fine i only had water conditioner in his tank nothing else the stuff i use is aqua +plus water conditioner his water was pristine nothing else added anyway he started acting really energetic early lastnight like he was swimming around kinda like dancing and all so i pm'd yeevs asked him if male rubs on tank were he is going to build a bb nest that is when my betta started so that is why i pm'd yeevs as i had thought he was doing a nest originally but yeevs had said Nope. They don't rub the edge. Usually your tank got ick or parasite biting his body. That is why they rub the side tank or whatever is there. and and that is when flames starts getting really weird he then tried seriously to jump outta the tank then he would bottom sit his gills were moving rapidly then he would dart up to the top take some breaths and go back down then he would try to swim around and then lay on his side gill movement rapid it was recommended that I use betta fix and salt and heat the tank as it could be a case of itch for the rubbing part i had been pming BQ telling her about what was going on thats why betta fix was recommended and aquarium salt was recommended along with heat as she thought it was ich i went to go get it from the lfs i was gone for like 10 minutes i came back and he had passed on

The information you is helpful. You definately have a love for bettas and take good care of them. One thing that puts a flag up for me is that Flame was trying to jump out of the water. The conditioners are good to use. The reason salt is helpful is because fish are about 7% salt. Because freshwater is a lower salt concentration, freshwater fish are constanly peeing. Saltwater fish excrete salt. Although you should never increase the salt concentration to 7% (in will do harm to their kidneys) some help will help relieve energy used in osmoragulation. Getting back to jumping out of the water. Through my experiences in learning the hard way I have experienced fish with parisites will rub against things, which is called 'flashing'. If a fish is encountering water quality problems they will try escaping the water. I'm in no way saying the water was dirty. I'm guessing something was irritating Flames whole body. I'm a mom and one idea is maybe your daughter was trying to help take care of Flame by adding something to his tank. In the future, if you encounter fast swimming, like darting from one end to the other, immediately do a 50% water change and ask questions later. I hope this helps.

Thanks Nutty. ;) Well said.
Something is in the water. Is your water supply is ok? How about your other bettas? They doing fine right?
:coffee1

Newdayrising - January 31, 2007 07:36 PM (GMT)
my other bettas are doing fine they are acting norm.swimming norm eating norm and flaring norm i dunno what could be in the water  and what could of gotten to him but whatever it was it was quick acting

Keep observation on you water. Do get IAL in hand. Also quickcure that has formalin, and malachite green. Another way is getting APPLUS anti-fungus from APPLUS anti-bacteria. Those works pretty good when you see the bettas scratching anything and also for fin rots. ;)

bettaqueen - January 31, 2007 10:04 PM (GMT)
The bettafix is anibacterial and antifungal. I used it along with salt and heat when Zeke had velvet. Yeevs maybe right. there maybe something in the water. It could be as well since he came from a lfs , he may have already been sick when you got him and the sypmtoms just became worse yesterday. I did tell you all those things, but I also said a pic would be good in case it was some other illness such as Velvet, colamarious ( spelling), ich, parasites. anyways I am sorry Flame did not make it :OPPS:
