Title: Brent Metcalf vs. Dustin Schlatter
Description: @ Medina Tourney

MNSota - January 5, 2005 06:59 PM (GMT)
Maybe this is old news to some of you, but I see that Brent Metcalf defeated Dustin Schlatter at the Medina Tournament in Ohio at Winter Break (3-3 in 2OT).

Without question these are two of the top wrestlers in the country this year and would've been a great match to see.

Here is a shortcut to a picture slide show of the match.

Thank you for posting that MNsota!!!! Would have loved to see that one live.

Does anyone know how the scoring went?? If the photos were in order it looked like Metcalf rode the hell out of Schlatter. I am hoping Dustin gets another shot at Mecalf before the end of the year.

Dustin looks ready NOW for the 157 spot......

Here is a play by play that I found from the Metcalf/Schlatter match. I'm not sure how accurate it is as I found it on a Michigan Wrestling Forum. Either way, the match sounded incredible.

1st Period: Shlatter in on power double Metcalf in crotch locked up nearly gvets stuck scrambble and questionable two given to Schlatter.2-0Metcalf escapes right away 2-1Metcalf pushes pace shouldve been stalling. End of Period 2-1 Shlatter2nd Period: Shlatter down escapes right away 3-1Metcalf pushes pace gets two stalling calls couldve been more. Period ends 3-2 Shlatter3rd Period: Metcalf down escapes immediately 3-3.Brent pushes pace no points. With :15 left Metcalf in on deep double at the edge of the mat. As he tries to keep feet in looses balance and Sclatter counters gets two but referees go to table and decide time expired.OT: Metcalf frantically pushing pace no takedown. 3-32ot: Shlatter down Three stand ups about 6 seconds each Metcalf follows out of bounds. 12 seconds left Shlatter stands Metcalf launches Schlatter like I've never seen in a high school match couldve easily been a slam. But not called and both wrestlers go out of bounds. :05 seconds left Metcalf rides out Schlatter. Final Metcalf dec. over Shlatter in 2ot. Metcalf looked upset with his performance as he sprinted to shake both coaches hands and then sprinted directly out of the gym. Great Job both guys.

From what I read on another forum posted by someone who was there...there was time on the clock and Schlatter should have been awarded the takedown.

An Interesting Side Story:

Jeff Jordan trained C.P. and Dustin to be what they are in wrestling from the time they were in grade school. Two years ago their Father pulled Dustin out of St. Paris due to differences with Coach Jordan. Last summer, Brent Metcalf came to Jordan's camp in Ohio to get the answer to one question: "How do I beat Dustin?"

I guess he got his answer.

9 times out of 10 that match probably goes to Schlatter, but the match that may be the only time they meet this year, went the other way. Hopefully we will see the re-match at High School Nationals, Jr. Nationals or in college.

Slide #33 shows locked hands, Schlatter should have won 4-3 2 o.t.

Refs give reaction time. Looks like they were just about to land on the mat. Schlatter had stood up and Metcalf was returning him to the mat.

Very good point!! Especially with the ref standing flat footed on the back side......

You know, when I saw that slide, that's the same thing I thought...clasping. But I figured it must have been during the return to the mat as Parlin stated.

I don't think this is the last time they're going to see each other. I won't be surprised at all if they were at the same weight during NHSCA Sr. Nationals.

What impresses me the most is the fact that these two "superstars" had the courage to make this match happen. They could have very well dodged one another and won their respective weight classes with very little difficulty. Both of them showed why they are the top recruits in the country. Both of them have certainly solidified the respect that I have for them (not that they didn't have it before). I'm looking forward to following both of their careers at Virginia Tech and here in Minnesota.

I recommend everyone that reads this to attend Jeff Jordan Camp. It'll definatly get you mentally stronger. It will help you out with minor techniques. Which could win the match for you. Want more info, shoot me an e-mail.

I also recommend you going when you are a 7th grader or 8th... I went my Senior Summer, it helped, but it was a bit to late. Go as a team, it'll build Unity.

Noah didn't wait for his ship to come in, he built one!

NapoleonDynamite - January 16, 2005 01:47 AM (GMT)
Don't the Jordan's have the camp in a barn or something like that?

COACH - January 16, 2005 07:42 AM (GMT)
I wrestled Schlatter several time(no I didn't win) and talked to him and he and his brother were "born to wrestle" they were tutored (academicly)and wrestled almost year round all over the country since they were little. Kind of a strange upbringing huh?

COACH - January 16, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
    Gees I was trying to get you guys going and no one bit!
I suppose that's cuz he set all those school records huh???
I'm 33 a little to old to have wrestled him.

where is this Jordans camp?

lilmatcat - January 18, 2005 06:17 AM (GMT)
If I'm not mistaken Jeff Jordan's is a camp in Ohio, and yes it is in something like a barn/shed. The kids sleep on the mats at night.
