Title: Gopher's Schedule
Description: Why so weak?

Jared - September 26, 2009 02:44 PM (GMT)
I was just looking at the Gopher's schedule for this coming year and noticed how weak it was. Whats the reason for sucha weak schedule? Are they tring to pad there records or tring to give there young wrestlers confidence? I understand they have went to the Bison Open for a while now, to give all there kids confidence in the beginning of the year but how much confidence do they really need? 2 months of it? They only wrestle one top 15 team until January possibly 2.

Why bother beating the guys up early? It's a long season.

you could wrestle high school teams in the first half, the big ten season, and it would be a very grueling schedule. I see nothing wrong with this

Why so weak?

Let's see, Big Ten dual schedule, plus non-conference Iowa St, Nebraska, and Ok State, plus National Duals, plus Southern Scuffle equals as tough of a schedule as you'll find. Were you really serious?

Did you want them to add the national teams from Russia and Iran and a selections of Greek gods coming down from Mt. Olympus?

They are coming in for scrimmages anyhow. ;)

They couldn't get Iowa and Iowa St. to wrestle every week. Apparently, J. should only schedule top 5 teams and to hell with everyone else. Make sure your wrestlers are beat to a pulp before the real season begins.

There is nothing wrong with this schedule. You need to give the non-starters top some quality matches. They only get better with more time with other D-1 wrestlers.

KB will have tough teams, Neb, Iowa State, OKST and Southern Scuffle makes a tough tough schedule by any teams standards.

Well I understand you don't want to be beat to a pulp right from the start, and you want to get the fan support, with giving the young kids confidence from the beginning with big wins wrestling Cal State Bakersfield and Northern Colorado are fine, and beat old power Oklahoma St. But the open tournaments they are in are the weaker ones. I just look at tournaments like The Midlands, and The Cliff Keens that might be more competitive for them. Plus when your in the Big Ten its impossible to have a weak schedule.

On a side note didn't Zack Bigboy wrestle for Cal State Bakersfield? Whatever happened to him?

I think you have to remember that not the entire Gophers team are seniors. Some are freshman and need to have the confidence building matches, or matches to allow them to try a few things but for they hit the big ten season. I think the schedule has some tough teams/wrestlers and some teams/wrestlers we should beat, a good balance to start the season prior to the Big Ten season getting under way.

Bigboy left Cal St. after the 08 year ended I think and although I heard rumors of him going somewhere else I didn't hear of him actually wrestling anywhere else.
