Title: 2010 Champs predictions
Description: Anyone other than a Gopher??
Tigerfan9311 - August 22, 2009 06:31 PM (GMT)
I'll start:
125 Sanders - I really like his style. If anyone can get through T-Nick's defense, it's this kid.
133 Oliver - Let the Cael comparisons begin.
141 Gallick - Jacksonian era begins.
149 Palmer - Hendricks/Perry all over again. Metcalf caves.
157 Burroughs - OW and Hodge winner.
165 Marable - Somehow gets it done against Schlatter.
174 Miller - Wide open weight.
184 Keddy - Continues to improve. Iowa's only Champ.
197 Varner - Hodge runner-up.
Hwt Ellis/Bradley - similar improvement to last year will put whoever comes out on top ahead of the field.
MNRodent - August 22, 2009 09:40 PM (GMT)

184 LeBlanc
197 Hudson Taylor (actually I think Varner, but I'll go with the drama major)

Take a look at his off-season training & competition.
You'll be surprised; Sonny has made HUGE strides.
He's been training several times a week with Mike Farrell and went tight with Pendelton.
I'm not saying 1-2, but watch for some upsets early on as his ranking hits Top 5-10.
MNRodent - August 24, 2009 10:31 PM (GMT)
I think Skip was saying 1 win and 2 losses at NCAA Tourney for Sonny and lilmatdog was implying he'd be better then that. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Mike Farrell is still wrestling? Isn't he in his 40's?

I think you got it right. B)
lilmatdog - August 25, 2009 03:19 AM (GMT)
Correct. He was a freshman last year who was injured for 6 months prior to the season, finally was able to workout in November and jumped right into Big Ten competition. This year he will be in shape, he has been lifting and working out, and he will erase everything you remember about him. At least that is what I think. I also think he will at least make it to the round of 12 if not better.

I saw Mike a few months ago.....he still looks like he could rip your head off to eat as an appetizer

Seems like Marty Morgan is in his 40's. And isn't he training Brock Lesnar? Randy Couture is still fighting in his 40's. Forty is not that old anymore. (I only say that cuz I'm in my 40's)

I want to modify my 165 prediction. Word is that Lewnes is gonig 174 this year, so he isn't eligible for 165.
Choosing the obvious (Schlatter) isn't much fun, but even with the continued seasoning of Howe, Dustin is the obvious choice. Marable is very solid and has great neutral defense, but he doesn't ride and has less offense than Dustin. Then again, some guys learn new tricks for their senior year. Morningstar also has tenacious defense and is a good rider, but is certainly not aggressive from his feet. Lots of very good wrestlers here... but they are not known for offensive aggressiveness.

Gotcha - Sorry I misunderstood 1-2 meaning he'd be in the finals.
Farrell, 43 this year, was Veterans National Folkstyle and Freestyle Champ 2 years ago at 211 lbs. Last year he was Veterans National Freestyle Champ at 184 lbs beating a 3X World Finalst & 2X World Champ in the finals (Schwartz?).
Cradleking is right. He'd eat all of us for appetizers as a warm up before his morning coffee. I'd say he'd more than hold his own against most D1 freshmen.

How do you like your crow prepared? You should start giving that some thought since I do think you're going to have to eat it.

There are times a person doesn't mind being wrong. I think that might be crow he will gladly eat.

165 is going to be even harder now that the defending champion has been granted another year of eligibility by the NCAA.
That being said, I think that the mongoose is the favorite as long as he doens't get hurt. This year's training and the confidence he will get from making the national team are important!

You sure have high expectations for the gophers next year!! I could be wrong but the last time Minnesota had 7 AA was the 2001-2002 season with 10 quilifers. I think the gophers will be lucky to have 5 AA, but will probaly only have 4. The gophers will be tough but national Champs?? Probaly not but possibly top 10.

Crow goes well with foot. At least when you eat crow its cause you stuck your foot in your mouth!

Speaking of the Gophers 149lber: Has Mario put on any muscle and filled out a bit more? Watching him last year he didn't seem like a big 149lber, but he sure was slick! Adding extra muscle to that slickness could make him a force in his RSFR year...
