Why don't you put Benefeil in the gopher lineup? You are already making a random assuption that Metcalf will go 157. He is not a big 149 pounder, what makes you think he's going 157?

I hope Benefeil comes to the gophers, but until I see it in print I can't assume that he'll be there. As for Metcalf, I agree he has no reason to go 157, I just put him there because the line-up I quoted put him there, and I figured he might know something I don't.

lilmatdog - April 10, 2009 01:07 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure that Metcalf major's Dietchler. His strongest asset is his ability to out last everyone with that motor of his which is also one of Dietchler's strength's. I think it will be a close match to the finish.

What are the chances he starts next year?

Ramos would probably have to be favored at this point. But at the Clash it was only a decision.

Metcalf is called a "slow starter". From what I have seen he is a very good technical wrestler but not a great technical wrestler therefore he starts to excel as he wears people down. Most people get mauled by Metcalf in the 3rd period however if you remember i don't think Jake won a single opening period in the Olympic trials or at the Olympics for that matter. Jake is also stronger as the match goes on so I'm not sure that Metcalf will be able to wear Jake out and then crank it up in the 3rd like he is known to do.

If my observations about Metcalf are correct.... that he needs to wear out his opponent so he can overpower them, and if Jake is as much of a 3rd period warrior in college as he has been in high school and the Olympics, then I believe that it will be a closer match than people are saying and will be a tighter match all the way to the 7:00 mark.

I'm not saying that Jake is better than Metcalf but i do think his style is perfect to wrestle Metcalf. I look forward to the match.

You are way off on McDonough. He will either wrestle 125 or 133 next year. 125 will be between him and Moore.

your right i thought McDonough was way bigger til i saw that he was wrestling 132 this weekend...also at 125 you'll have Tony Ramos fighting for tha spot.

Whose bigger out of Dan Dennis and Joe Slaton??

I would be very surprised to see Mike Thorn move up to 149. He isn't an overly large 141lber and I don't think it would be fair for him to take one for the team his senior year.

Also, between Moore and Ramos, I would have to believe Tony goes 125 with Nate Moore moving up to 133. Did he ever make 125 this past year? I heard that he was struggling with weight.

And, Covington left the Hawks.

I actually think that Dietchler could defintley keep it close with Metcalf. Metcalf likes to get on your head and wear you out. Im with LMD I think Dietchler has great conditioning and will fight with Metcalf to the end!

the hulk - April 17, 2009 02:05 PM (GMT)
Jake is an olympian i think he could keep it close against metcalf!!!

izzman - April 17, 2009 04:07 PM (GMT)
Yeah he definitely won't lose because of a lack of mental toughness. Ability I actually think Jack has better technique. So it will come down to the motor. If Jake can keep it close and make it a match for 2 periods it will come down to the motor. Jake will not lose in that situation. We are talking about a Senior and a Freshman so keeping it close with the amount of experience that cheapcalf has on him will be key.

bhooked - April 17, 2009 05:35 PM (GMT)
So if it close going into the 3rd, your taking JD over BM. Wow, your taking JD over one the best conditioned athletes ever. If it close going into the 3rd, my money is on BM. But, you won't to worry about it being close.

TCroz - April 17, 2009 05:42 PM (GMT)
Bhooked ~ Metcalf will still be shell shocked from the pounding he took in the National finals. I think JD will own him....I hope you know more about cards than you do wrestling!!!!!

With Rossy and I you know everyon is playing for second...see ya at Ringo's!

I like the way you think but I have to disagree a little. Jake is good but I don't think he will run away from BM in the 3rd like your suggesting or at least I don't think he will.

BM is only the best conditioned in Iowa, you haven't got to see Jake wear him out yet.

Also i believe DIsney wont make the MN lineup either. I think the Dual will be alot closer than last years dual. Who cares, in 10-11 neither one of these teams will win the big ten or ncaa. Im saying OHIO State or Wisconsin to win it all. The think the gophers are on their way down as of lately, the recruits are alright but there recruiting is not the best anymore. Just because deitchler wrestled in the olympics means nothing. He will not come close to metcalf, be realistic. If they were wrestling greco i would give it to jake but their not.
