QUOTE (NekoDono)
I noticed that a lot of people here are aspiring poets so I decided to start a poetry contest.

Rules
1 - Cannot be too long. I'll let the poet use their best judgement
2 - Nothing vulgar
3 - Can be on almost any topic
4 - Judging to be done by yours truly
5 - Due 2/12/07 (I'll post the best two up on V-Day )
6 - Bonne chance! ^_^

Good luck to everyone! :gift:

goddess_in_blue - February 1, 2007 03:12 AM (GMT)

No offense to our darling Neko, but shouldn't the judging be done by voting? I just feel like that would be more fair.

I will have to agree. The voting should be left to everyone so that any type of poem won't be frowned upon. If it was left up to one person the people who lose may get angry and start whining to you Neko, So I say we vote on it

I'll do it by poll and let everyone vote on their top 3 favorite poems. ^_^ But of course me or Neko will have to pick the 3. ;)

Sadhana - February 1, 2007 08:39 PM (GMT)
Why pick the top three? Doesn't it make more sense to give all the members an equal say in this so the decision isn't influenced by the bias and preferences of one or two people?

I guess, we can have everyone vote on their favorite poems for the people who enter! :)

NekoDono - February 1, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
That sounds fine. ^_^ What ever makes y'all happy. Here's the criteria I'd like y' all to consider when voting though.

Vocabulary - Is it different, creative, but not confusing?
Rhyming - Does it flow with good rythem or is it rather forced?
Use of Theme/Topic - Is it a new idea or an interesting take on a common topic? Or is it an overly used cliche?

Just something to think about. Oh and to enter poetry, just copy & paste it onto a post. I won't go kickin' you or something accusing you of spam. XD

Odayaka - February 2, 2007 12:58 AM (GMT)
Ummmmm. . . Does the poem have to rhyme? Can it just be a free-verse poem?

If it's going to be an open poll then I would think that you should be able to enter any type of poem since its going to be up to the decision of the people and who knows who's going to enjoy who's peom ^_^

Nightshade - February 2, 2007 04:41 AM (GMT)
I'd like to enter this, although my poem won't be very romantic in a "happy" sense if that is alright with the contest rules here. :3

NekoDono - February 2, 2007 12:10 PM (GMT)
That's just fine. It needn't be about love. ^_^

-DarkLight- - February 5, 2007 06:06 AM (GMT)
I guess I'll get this show on the road ^_^
here's the poem I'm submiting.

"The Plunge"

I stand at the edge of the cliff and say
“I know I should not delay"

I don't know what's at the bottom for me
But for a reason unknown, it I must see

The mist rolls away and my eyesight returns
The sun comes out and my eye burns

I grow acustom to the heat and look to the place
Between me and the unknown is to much space

I get frustrated at my blindness and lunge
Unknowingly I just took the plunge.

Not the best but I just wrote what I was feeling at the time

"degringolade"

I take it as a sign, that now is the time to say goodbye
                                         { already, all ready }
Here, my dear, is a kiss of fond farewells
and once more we'll bid adieu, our smiles of sunny days strangely few
And to unveil the words unspoken, this is your cue.

But read the fictions pouring out into words,
and for me, please, promise to believe it all
I beg of you--clad in these shirts of lies and half-truths.
Ignorance is bliss and all of these days were light
Do you dare dive into the depths--
into libraries of selective memories for a single truth?
Step away, however, rewind and reconsider this fact--

Halfway between here and nowhere
we're alone in a room of millions
saying, "I love you, but who are you?"

For those curious:

degringolade (plural degringolades)

1. a tumble
2. a rapid decline or deterioration

Aurora - February 8, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
An old poem. But ah well. I've been lacking creativity lately.

Don't Make A Wish

Don't wish on daisy petals,
Don't wish on shooting stars.
Forget all you have hoped for--
Lock your heart behind the bars.

Don't yearn for things too far to reach
Don't put yourself through pain.
Don't for things that cannot be,
You'll only wish in vain.

Don't dream of happy endings
Don't be a little girl
For wishing is for children
And you're in a dream world.

Don't waste your tears on people
For they're not worth the anguish.
Don't waste your time on fantasies,
You'll never get your wish.

"Burn"

_______________________

Like a fire burning bright,
a lantern providing light.
Burn.
As the sun set's to settle,
and the flower closes its petal's.
Burn.
When a breath is drawn in vain,
its one more blood drop to a stain.
Burn.
A Rose taking full bloom in radiance,
with its soothing, calming fragrance.
Burn.
Forever seeming as an ocean,
the waves roaring in motion.
Burn.
The breaking of a gentle heart,
slowly being torn apart.
Burn.
Forgiveness that comes from within the soul,
catching error, fault, and blemish like a trap hole.
Burn.
The love of regret and pain,
as it catches ignition of a flame.
Burn.
Ashes of something once so strong and proud,
may they be risen up again and found.
Burn.

Yeah yeah, I know I have no chance of winning...>__<. But, I tried.

Heaven's Love

Heaven, the place they say where all dreams good come true.
The place where all suffering, anguish and pain is null.
Where you can live a life of eternal happiness forevermore.
A place where I could never go.

I have sinned and hath done horrid deeds.
Deeds that I can not forget no matter what.
You were no sinner you were as pure as snow.
Gentle as the lamb, as graceful as the deer you were.

Your eyes of benevolence didn't deserve to see my eyes of sin.
And yet whenever you looked into my eyes you saw different.
You saw one with a shy and lonely heart.
One who felt worthless and sad.

Now I realize that while I may not think I deserve to go there.
He, you and the rest there think the other.
I will wait for that day when I will see you again.
And witness the celestial bliss.

This is the poem I'm entering.
