Title: korean actors
Description: you mean there are others besides rain?
deedee - April 22, 2008 10:55 PM (GMT)
let's talk korean actors.
i love korean movies, in large part because the acting is usually just wonderful. (disclaimer - i don't speak a word of korean, but they still come across very well.)
here are a few actors who i will watch in pretty much anything:
song kang ho (host, jsa, sympathy for mr vengeance, memories of murder): this guy is one of those actors who can morph into almost anyone/anything - hilarious or tragic. he is great in every movie i've seen him in. very hard to take your eyes off of. a park chan wook regular - will star in park's upcoming vampire movie, thirst.
shin ha kyun (mr vengeance, save the green planet, no mercy for the rude, guns and talks) another chameleon actor. younger, less gravitas than song, but he can pull off some amazing roles. also in thirst.
choi min sik (oldboy, lady vengeance, failan) incredible performances - the gold standard for playing difficult/tragic trainwrecks. among the bravest actors i've seen (see oldboy, chiawhaseon)
lee byung hun (bittersweet life, jsa, upcoming good, bad, weird, plus a bunch of gooey chick flicks) aging out of heartthrob roles and into badass ones - amazing in bittersweet life. preparing to conquer the world: in 2 movies that should open at cannes this year.
here are some more who i think are good actors but who are in some crappy movies - jang dong gun (good in chingu; crappy in the promise, which was terrible); lee sung jae (good in holiday and barking dogs never bite, and almost unrecognizable as the same actor; crappy in daisy, another crappy movie); han suk yu; baek yoon sik; yoo ji tae; a bunch more...
and then there are the cute ones. being on the cute list does not preclude being a good actor, it's just that the cuteness is more noticeable than the acting talent:
daniel henney: top of the list - ridiculously good looking.
gong yoo: adorable.
kim sung soo: adorable and hot.
kwon san woo: the body.
oh ji ho
song sung hun
won bin
and about a billion more, yes, including rain.
so. who did i miss?

Ummm...I think thats everybody.
I myself have only just started the Korean list! I can't get past JiHoon (Rain) yet! I have been a fan of Japanese drama forever.I have a list similar to your own for those hot Japanese guys! I am taking lots of notes from you (now!) and deedee who seems a fan of Kdramas also.
This is lots of fun for me! Keep up the suggestions!
Yummy Asian Talent and hotness! woot!woot! tuzki06

I stick with tradition you know. <_< It would be the time that I post another Hoony delight. Of course these things only delight ME, but whatever. (weep weep, bad day)
MY Hoony, for ME, to cheer me today. (and anyone else is free to cheer at it too.)
cinxxx - April 23, 2008 03:17 PM (GMT)
Oops! I posted Hoony in the wrong thread! :blush
Just a testament to the kind of day I had yesterday.
Today is a new day! It will surely be better!
"Motto Tsuyoku" Go fighting!
(whispers to self..."go you" )
Kristi - April 30, 2008 05:10 AM (GMT)
cinxxx,
good grief, again with the belt buckle!! oy!! :o
And I have to add my most favorite Korean actor Shin Hyeon Jun. Damn near fell all over myself for him in Bichunmoo, wasn't real impressed with The Gingko Bed, but holy hoppin' horney toads you get to see a lot of him in Blue. Nice walking away factor there!! ;) Another one of those, "I hate to see him go, but I love to watch him leave"...Hell-O! Here are some of my favorites...

Bichunmoo

oh my...
Deirdre - April 30, 2008 01:09 PM (GMT)
I recognize him. He starred in "Rondo" a joint, Japanese and Korean production starring the incredibly gorgeous Yutaka Takenouchi and Choi Ji Woo, who I guess is like the most popular actress in Korea. He was quite good. You should check out the series.
deedee - April 30, 2008 03:06 PM (GMT)
good addition. he was also in guns and talks, which was hilarious. great comic timing.
he was in a k-pop video that i saw once - tragic, romantic, ridiculous - very korean. i looked for it but could not find it - i'll keep trying.
Kristi - May 9, 2008 04:23 AM (GMT)
Please do. I just fell in love with him in Bichunmoo, and then Blue...wow!!
deedee - May 19, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
let me, if i may, drag you away from those pillowy lips and washboard abs for a sec.
here's a new trailer for a new movie, a korean spaghetti western set in manchuria, from the director of bittersweet life. shooty and violent, yes, but it looks like so very much fun, if you like that sort of thing (and i do.)
it's here.to me things don't get much more watchable that lee byung hun in badass mode and song kang ho in crazy mode. i can't wait for this one - makes me wish i was in cannes right now.
okay, back to jihoon's garden of earthly delights.
dd
cinxxx - May 19, 2008 04:36 PM (GMT)
YES, Deedee! I too saw the trailer for this and think it looks awesome!
God. I SO wish we could go and see these things together :(
The fun level would be off the map!
Well, we will just have to come back to this ole meetin' place and dish all about it, huh?
deedee - May 19, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
y'know, cin, that would be kind of fun.
but improbable, so as you say, we'll just have to compare notes here.
but i gotta say, i really, really, really can't wait for this one.
"just manchuria?" what a badass.
aloha-

This beautiful man is Sung Kang Han, he is an American born and raised in Georgia! But he is Korean. Yummy! He was in Fast & Furious, Tokyo Drift, as a Japanese street racer.

You notice all our Korean men are being stuffed into Japanese roles? Be like Hoony, make them alter your heritage and be as Korean as possible!

That is a general ignorance of us "non-asians". When I hear sometimes people who say things like 'what is a difference between a Japanese, Chinese, Korean etc. anyway? They look all similar' ... and some other bulls***! I hate this kind of thinking.
cinxxx - May 25, 2008 02:35 AM (GMT)

This is Mr. Will Yun Lee, American born Korean, and quite perfectly stunning.
He is also a Martial Arts expert (His Father is a Master) attended Harvard, and is blowing Hollywood a new one with his acting chops. Go, Baby. :P
cinxxx - May 25, 2008 02:40 AM (GMT)
Another of handsome Will...:yum
Who can explain to me how to post more than 1 picture in each post?
I totally cannot figure it out. I tried a couple of different things at the ImageShack site, but it doesn't seem to work...?
Anyone?

Sorry, but not one single Korean actor listed here is as much as exciting as Ji-Hoon (Rain) :blush - please do not kill me, but that's my opinion!
And as for the trip to Hell: if we are so many to go, do you think we get a group discount? :P
cinxxx - June 4, 2008 10:34 PM (GMT)
ltk00...please stop asking us not to kill you!
We don't kill people for sharing an opinion! We could consider murder~death~kill, if say, you knew where Takeshi was and didn't tell us, or maybe if you had on-set passes to meet JiHoon in Berlin, and didn't invite me. But to share your opinion? No killing. ;)
