Title: Hello?
Description: Hi, whatever active members are here

Elspeth of Tamaren - August 27, 2005 03:36 PM (GMT)
Hi, a little new here, you can call me Elspeth, that isn't actually my name of course but it's who I am on this site. Anyway, I'm a fan of Pierce and have read all of the books but Trickster's Queen (getting around to it) and own the first three quartets. I have some ?'s about the characters. My charry, aka Elspeth of Tamaren, is in fact a female knight with a moderate amount of the Gift (light and fire magic) The rules seemed a little strict about wanting more ordinary people, but it is a regretful fact that ordinary people aren't as fun to play. So I was wondering if I should keep Elspeth the way she is or have her a Giftless Rider or something, which would naturally break my heart but I could live with it?

P.S. Elspeth happens to be a fighter and I noticed an abscence of battle rps around here. I may be prone to starting them, but relax, they won't be flagrantly unrealistic or gory, just opportunities for injuries and plot

the Wildmage - August 27, 2005 04:10 PM (GMT)
You know what? I have the same problem. That is why I HATE Realm of Tortall and nomore go on it, but I got the email so here I am.
The rules are EXTREMELY strict, so I advice you to either leave this site immediately or join another on that is LESS STRICT. I completely understand what you are talking about. I think if you take the Gift, wild magic, or Sight away from stories or anything, that just INSULTS Tamora Pierce. Tortall WAS NOT created to just be an ordinary world, so I think this site offends it.
and I too am about to read Trickster's Queen. Trickster's Choice was DA BOMB!!!

Hi Elspeth. Welcome to our . . .dismantled site.

We're moving. Look here for more information

So it would probably be a time saver, if you just save it for the new site.

But i will answer your questions here.

We don't want ordinary people. We want strange well rounded character to play that don't prefferable have magic in anyway, shape, or form. But as my rule of thumb for character: I say that out of all your characters one may have magic, unless there's some extreme reason why another should be allowed to have magic.

So it depends. Do whichever you please.

This is just a warning, as I have seen the world. We, the active members of RoT are not battle people. Probably because there's no one to battle except hazy NCP's. Not much fun. We also tend to focus character oriented plots rather than action ones and even with those, we tend to be amazingly, disgustingly through when it comes to plotting.

So I don't know how much of that you're going to get.

And the Wildmage: Not everyone in Tammy's world has magic as it is well seen in the books. We are just trying to keep things nice and even. If it truly bothers you, don't come back. In fact, I will ask that you don't. Your input is also very hurtful to the site that we are trying very hard to mantain.

True, this RP is set in a structured envioriment not for people who want to run amock on the boards. The structure is however what we rely on to keep the board realistic We have far less rules than many RP's that I have been in. However, if this is a problem for you, as I said before, you can leave no one is stopping you.

the Wildmage - August 27, 2005 04:18 PM (GMT)
well, TORTALL has fighting, so will stop arguing with the RULES OF TORTALL?! Every SINGLE BOOK has fighting in it! or are YOU just here to PLAY A GAME?!

Hayden LaRue - August 27, 2005 04:24 PM (GMT)
This is not a book, this is an RP, and it is supposed to be mirroring everyday life as a Tortallian citizen.

I did not say that we couldn't have fighting. We have a thread devoted to it at the moment. The Spridren hunt will probably end with a batttle with Immortals and as I have said before, if it bothers you that much you can leave.

the Wildmage - August 27, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
:ph43r:  :) how do u unsubscribe? cuz I dont get it.

Hayden LaRue - August 27, 2005 04:31 PM (GMT)
You can't unsubscribe to the board if that's what you mean.

But to a thread you go to your control panel there's a link that says My Controls. From there you go to the side panel and there should be a thing that says Subscriptions. Click on topic, select the topic, and then click the unsubscribe topic.

That's all right, I was planning to have only Elspeth as a character anyway, and if I make another character he/she will be completely Giftless.

Well, as long as there are plots I'm good with that, although in a world with so many pages/Riders/knights it seems a little silly not to have any fighting. And I must say, at risk of sounding like an annoying, stubborn roleplayer, I may be tempted to bring a little fighting around, although not too much and certainly not if anyone objects to it.

Yes, I read the thread and am going to wait for the new site, in which I may actually spell Tameran correctly in my username. Is there any idea when exactly the new site is going to be up?

Katherine of Blackwater - August 27, 2005 06:42 PM (GMT)
I don't think we know excatly when it's going to be done at the moment.

Elspeth of Tamaren - August 27, 2005 06:52 PM (GMT)
All right . . . I'll be waiting :)

Katherine of Blackwater - August 27, 2005 07:32 PM (GMT)
I think we will post when the new site is finished and everyone will switch. So until then.

And it's nice to meet you, I'm Katherine. I forgot to type that in my first post.

Elspeth of Tamaren - August 27, 2005 10:34 PM (GMT)
Hey, Katharine. :) And I figured out why I spelled Tameran wrong; it's in the fiefs listing as Tamaren. I think it sounds cooler mispelled. Sigh. On that note, does Prosper of Tameran count as a canon character? I mean, he is canon but he's rather minor. Just wondering, as I had Elspeth as his daughter; she happens to be a light mage as well, with a gift for fire too. Just wondering, although I think I'll be posting the character on the new site, not here.

Hayden LaRue - August 28, 2005 02:05 AM (GMT)

Elspeth of Tamaren - August 28, 2005 02:37 AM (GMT)
And read the rules first! Don't get your heart set on being Kel's Gifted daughter or anything.

Falik Al Basiri - August 28, 2005 01:01 PM (GMT)
welcome to the roleplay. :)

I think despite the criticisms levelled by some that there is a huge amount of scope for creativity on this RP and people have some fascinating characters, some of them of the types that TP wouldn't have necessarily written about but who fit the world of the books perfectly.

I'm Ruth, or Nana as I'm more commonly called on account of being the old lady of the board at 26 heh.

Elspeth of Tamaren - August 28, 2005 01:26 PM (GMT)
One can't exactly rp through the books with your character alongside the canons; try reading bad fanfiction for the same effect. But one must admit that sort of thing would be very, very fun, if extremely chaotic and contradictory.

Oh! how ancient! :)
