---Character Information

Name: Rett Santenfold
Age: 15
Birthplace: Corus, Tortall.
Position: Commoner

History: Rett's parents were two commoners who, quite simply, fell in love and decided to marry. She was the daughter of an innkeeper, and he was a storeowner; she found it quite easy to adjust to life in a cozy house, selling textiles on the marketplace. Their first child was a girl, Jerra, and the family became harder for one small business to provide for. It was six years after Jerra that they began to get settled again, and their son, Rett, was born. The two children got along fairly well, but never seemed to have many interests in common. Rett spent his days wandering about the market and nearby streets; he had a few neighborhood friends, but they never lasted very long.

When Jerra was 20, she met a trader from the northern border. Heren Taname was blonde, 22 years old, slightly shy, and traveling with his 19 year old brother Osric. Jerra and Heren decided to marry very soon after meeting each other; the Santenfolds were extraordinarily pleased. Heren and Jerra began to travel his trading routes together, providing extra support for Jerra's and Rett's parents. Making it to the market every day became less of a necessity. Rett, then 14, began drifting away.

He had gotten along with Osric Taname from the beginning; they were closer in age even than Rett and his sister. Osric decided to stay in Corus instead of being put in the awkward position of living on the road with two newlyweds. The two teenagers found in each other pleasant companions that weren't too pushy or intrusive. Rett's parents had no objections to Rett working his way up to living full-time with Osric, as Osric was responsible and a relative. They also privately hoped it would help keep their relationship with their restless teenager a pleasant one.

As Rett is 15, he returns to Osric's house most nights, staying out late others. He has begun spending his time in the Dancing Dove; awkwardly at first, but soon mingling with the others.

Personality: Rett is never the one to initiate conversation, but may try to make himself noticed when he wants to be introduced to someone. He always wants to be known and recognized by people, even if they don’t consider him a particular friend.

He’s rather nervous and skittish, not to mention easily startled and intimidated. Occasionally he’ll get a cocky air for an hour or so, but that quickly deflates; when it does, or when he makes any other mistakes, he’ll pretend afterwards that he was only joking or being sarcastic.

Rett’s rather clumsy out of carelessness; he has fine balance, but he often hurts himself on anything sharp. He's not very physically capable when it comes to fighting; his parents trained him to carry a small knife to be on the safe side, but he's never used it (it's gotten rather blunt) and distrusts himself with any other weapons. One thing he is good at, though, is blending in.

As far as conversation goes, he’s a little uneasy when serious topics come up. He also appreciates sarcasm, but doesn’t always rely on it himself. He does love joking around, though he gets the feeling that not everyone understands some of his jokes. He doesn’t have much temper, and when something truly angers him, he won’t react very aggressively.

Physical Appearance: Rett is rather short, and still in that awkward teenager phase. His hair is very dark brown, and cropped short; his eyes are mud brown. His nose is rather large, his feet and hands are rather small, and everything else- height, build-is average. For clothing he usually wears loose breeches, a plain color tunic, and occasionally a dark vest. His shoes are short, servicable, and leather, but he really prefers to go barefoot and kicks them off whenever he's sitting down for a while.

Sample Post: Rett wasn’t quite sure what to do with himself. He supposed he could head over to the Dancing Dove- and maybe actually go in this time- but he didn’t really feel in the mood. So instead he climbed onto the roof of the tiny house he shared with Osric.

It probably wasn’t the brightest idea he had ever had. After all, this was a busy street; and busy streets meant busy night life. If any rogues were accustomed to skulking around up here, well, he’d be in trouble. It didn’t help that there appeared to be an old blood stain up here on the tiles. Rett shied away from it. Thank gods it looked to have happened long before Osric moved in.

All in all, there wasn’t much to look at on the roof except some bird droppings and the blood stain. There was a decent view of the city, but other houses nearby went even taller, and it was hard to see past them. So a few minutes after lying idly around, Rett was once again bored. He headed back down to the ground, slipping the last few feet.
