--Character Information
Name: Penelope of Whitehorn
Age: 20
Birthplace: born in Whitehorn
Heritage: Noble, had a K'mir grandmother
Position: Lady Knight of the Realm of Tortall
History: Penelope was born in the fortress of Whitehorn to her mother Lady Catrina, and her father Melorn, on a beautiful spring day. She has two sisters, one a sorceress, and one becoming a lady at the convent. Penelope has the Gift, and uses it often. She lived in Whitehorn for her first five years, and in that time she learned how to ride, hand-to-hand combat, and the ways of other fiefs and other realms. After that, she moved to Sarian to live with her grandmother among the K'mir. With them, she continued her training; she learned how to use a bow and arrow, more horsemanship, control over her Gift, basic spells, and the very beginings of swordplay.
At the age of 8, she moved back to Whitehorn: she had longed for its cool rivers, grassy lands, and also she was sick and tired of the vicious warfare, expecially since she could do nothing to stop it until she had become a knight. When back in Whitehorn, her father died, leaving her mother to manage the family's estate by herself. Penelope was not very pleased with this: she was not able to see her mother often, for she was always much too busy, and both her sisters had gone away, one to the convent and the other to the City of the Gods to become a sorceress. She found herself becoming less in tune with the goings on around her. She rode often, and spent many long hours in the stables, grooming horses, or just talking to them. When she left for Corus to begin her quest for a shield, she had drifted far apart from her mother and all those she knew and loved.
At knight school, she made few friends because of her non-connection with the world. The friends she made were mainly like her, quiet, observent, thinkers, and dreamers, and all of them loved horses with all their hearts. All of her friends she made have remained with her all of these years
Penelope studied hard at all her subjects, and was expecially good at the horsemanship, swordsmanship, and history. The time at school went by rather quickly, and before she knew it, she was about to obtain her shield. She passed the ordeal of knighthood without trouble, and immediatly left Corus, hoping to find somekind of adventure soon.
First she returned to Whitehorn for a time, visiting relatives, and enjoying the peace and beauty of the place. But she soon became bored and headed to the Great Southern Desert, where she stayed with the Bazhir for a year. She missed the green, though, and headed back to th north. At this point in time she is still searching for a real adventure that will help Tortall, and make her feel like a real knight.
Personality: When she was younger, she was more outgoing, but now she is shy, and would rather be around animals, expecially horses, than be around humans. She loves to read too, as well as taking walks in the fields or forests of Tortall.
Penelope dreams and thinks alot. Ever since she was a small child, she has had the ritual of going outside and spending an hour in the shade of a tree, thinking over everything in her life, and dreaming of things she wants to happen in her in her future life. But now that she is a Knight of Tortall, she wants to do more than daydream and think.
She can be stubborn at times, not obeying orders much, mainly because of the absence of her mother for the time she was with the K'mir until now, and also because she has always been free spirited.
Penelope has the Gift, light blue in color, and learned to use it fast. She uses it in her everyday work, but more for the pleasure of doing something not everybody can do, than to make her life easier. The Gift makes it easier for her to be alone: some people are afraid of it and avoid her, and it also makes it easy to do things by herself.
She is very good with horses, as well as swordsmanship. She is not very good in mathematics and other, more left-brain subjects.
Physical Appearance: Penelope has long dark hair, reaching down to her waist. Her eyes are bright blue, a little lighter than sapphire. She is rather tall, standing 5' 9", and has VERY long legs, giving her that height. She is slim, only weighing about 120 pounds. She is rather attracitve, and her love has been requested on many occasions, only to be turned down because of Penelope's solitary manner, without need of companionship.
Sample Post: Penelope was in a solitary mood, and wanted to be alone for a while, so she decided to take advantage of her free time to take a ride, and maybe stop and have her thinking time. So, she headed to the stables to saddle Starfane, her horse for three years. It only took her a few minutes before she was realdy for her ride: most of the stable hands and nobles were inside eating dinner. She rode out of the city, and began galloping on a seldom- used path she had found on one of her many rides through these fields.
She stayed on the trail, taking an occasional fork, until she had no idea where she was: she had been thinking and dreaming too much to notice which forks she had taken. After several minutes of trying to find any familiar land marks to tell her where she was, Penelope dismounted and sat down on a stump. A big mess I've gotten myself into!, she scolded herself. I could be anywhere! In an evil wood, or a theives forest! Why didn't i pay more attention?!
She sat, thinking of how she could get out of here and back to the palace safely, and patting her horse, for several hours, but to no avail. The sun was now setting and she had not come up with a single plan. She was just about to get up and ride the road until she found a farm to spend the night at, when she heard voices behind her. She wheeled around and saw three men in ragged clothes behind.
" Hey, Mongre, what's this I see? A little girl, got lost in our woods?" The thief had only three yellow teeth, which he flashed at Penelope every time he said a word.
"Hmm, should we take her home to her mamma and leave her unharmed? I think not, well maybe unharmed, but I say she'll have nothin' when she leaves here! Serves the brat right for comin' into our woods!" The other robber said.
Penelope reached for her Starfane's reins, hoping she could escape unharmed, with all or most of her belongings. She also began to draw her sword. She began reaching inside herself for her Gift, but found only a small amout burning inside her. Scolding herself mentally for using it so extensivly, she took the little bit of magic, preparing to use it.
" Whats this, the childs gettin' a little afraid?" Mongre said, mockingly. " And, oh, look, I'm gettin' very scared: she's drawin' her little sword now!" He laughed hartily.
As they both laughed, they let down their guard, as well as well as not watching her. This gave Penelope a chance to hop quickly on Starfane, drawing her sword in the same motion. She sent a light blue fire ball at the men, making them scream in fright. Then she turned her horse around sharply, knocking down one of the robbers. She turned again and kicked Starfane into her fastest gallop, leaving the theives in the dust. That was VERY close! Penelope thoughtNot to mention A LOT of luck, and good moves from Starfane!
