---Character Information
Name: Sayuri Tanaka
Age: 19
Birthplace: Corus
Heritage Yamani
Position: High-class Merchant/Priestess in Training
History: Following the coronation of Queen Shinkokami and King Roald(assuming it was somewhere in the range of 20 years ago), her parents, newly weds, decided that they should move to Tortall. They were particularly fond of the princess, for venturing off of the islands when the engagement was to be held. When they got to Corus, they bought a simple, yet large store. They had plans to turn it into a Yamani resturaunt. However, it wasn't in the best of shape, so they did the next best thing, fix it up to their ability. Once in awhile, some kind people would come along here and then to help them with various activities. The finish product was a somewhat large room (Yamani stiled with low tables for eating, etc), with a counter near the sliding door. There was another room, which was the kitchen, and small hallway that led to the back, where Sayuri's family slept. It took a could several years to get it off the ground. During that time, Sayuri was born, with her strangely colored eyes. Her parents, thought it was a joke from their own benevolent god, Sakuyo.
From when Sayuri was able to leave her cradle, and until she left for priestess training, she was in and around the family tavern. When her motor skills where developed, is when she was beginning to be taught to wield the glaive and hand-hand techniques. While she was growing up, she would visit the temple district. She was intrigued by what the Priestesses did and wanted to be a part of it.
The older Sayuri got, the stranger things became to Sayuri. Accidents would happen, and no scars or scratches would be seen. The first known accident that prooved something was going on, happened in the kitchen when she was about 9 years of age. She was helping her father prepare a simple salad. Her job was to cut up the carrots. She went through the normal procedure of washing and skinning. The next step was for her to cut them. Unwilling, her finger had gotten in the way. The knife sliced a rather deep gash, protruding a small yip. Holding her finger, she thought of the forest, still and silent, as her father went to get a bandage for it. When she opened her hand, their was no gash. Yet her blood was on her hands and on the knife as proof of such.
Curious about such, she brought to the nearest healer. It was there she learned that she contained the Gift, a specialty of healing. Suggesting that they visit a mage to test the strength of it, they were suprised to find one in their tavern one night. So, he willing tested her, and he explained to them she had a moderate level of gift, with both healing and divination. Her family was thrilled for this discovery. However, Sayuri had no huge desire to be a fortune teller or a healer. She wanted to be just a priestess. It was then Sayuri learned that she could learn her healing while still being a priestess
So, when she came of age, she moved into the temple district. Now, at the age 19, she became adept with her healing at age 18, and still learning to scry and be a good priestess. Her time to finally take the oath to be a regular priestess comes in a year. At that time, she will decided what to do. However, she must do something good before the oath. This is for herself, as it isn't required. What she will find in Corus, is beyond her fore-seeing.
Personality: Sayuri is the typical Yamani, even though she was born in Corus. She keeps calm in any situation. She does as she is told and doesn't complain. A downside of that, is that she can be viewed as a goody-two shoes. Sayuri never will show an emotion when it isn't needed or to be shown. She will crack jokes at times, and seem to talk for ever on certain things. At times, she can be extrememly caring and over-protectful, another quality needed if the temple is to undergo crisis. Her most favourite thing of all, besides fighting, is to cook. Most of the meals she will cook are recipes brought from the Islands by her parents. Due to this love of food, she has a habit of going out on the weekends and visiting various taverns.
Sayuri, like any priestess, dislikes any treatment done against anyone. Female or male. Other dislikes of hers include frays, rational chaos, loud noises, and anything with alchohol. One can tell by her dislikes, she doesn't get out often enough. Things she doesn't do, is flirt with the mages that visit come over, or the Mithran priests in training.
Physical Appearance: Ink black hair, thin and straight, lays evenly at the middle of her back. Porclein white skin, ever so slightly tanned, and a small nose, hint of Yamani parentage. Almond shaped eyes, an odd colored iris of navy, is the main abnormalty for this teenager. She stands at nothing more then just under five foot. By just a simple glance, she seems like an innocent, soon-to-be maiden. However, her small form doesn't naturally bulk up. Her parents training with martial arts, glaive, katana, and other various weapons made her slightly strong.
While within the temple during the day (and festivities), she wears the simple white robes, required for priestess training. She'll pin her hair up simply with white ribbon. Not much is ever added to the requirement.
Before dawn, and during dusk, she'll be in her room, practicing techniques with the hand-hand combat and the practice weapons, mostly the naginata. For her practice, she wears the priestess clothes, although she doesn't live in the islands. It is a white gi (a wrap around jacket/shirt) and red hakama (big, shirt-ish pants). She can wear the tabi (socks with a slit in the toe), yet she prefers to be barefoot.
When at night, after practice and showers, she wonders the temple in variously shaded yukata, or light robes. Her favourite, is the simple navy blue one, lines with gold and blue embroidery, as she thinks it brings out a her eyes.
Sayuri does where kimono's, but only when she is at home for the while she is. Like all the Yamani kimono's, they are vibrant and beautiful. These stay at home and are never brought to the temple.
