Wolfe joins Akins as No. 38 chief

ThatsRacin.com Report

Akins Motorsports team owners Doug Stringer and Brad Akins announced Monday that Jon Wolfe has been named crew chief of the No. 38 Great Clips team, effective immediately.
"We're excited that Jon has joined our team at Akins Motorsports and we know that his experience and wisdom of the sport will play an integral part in the success of this team," said Stringer.

Wolfe, who has been involved in racing for over 20 years, got started by overseeing Malcuit Engines' Late Model near his home town in Strasburg, OH. In 1987 a good friend of his, Ben Hess, convinced him to move to Charlotte to help with a team owned by his father, Hess Racing.

While there, he won three times in the ARCA Series before the team moved into the NASCAR Busch and Cup Series. Wolfe got his first NASCAR Cup win in 1990 with Brett Bodine and has visited Victory Lane multiple times, including a Daytona 500 win with Joe Gibbs Racing driver Dale Jarrett.

"I'm really excited to be joining the Akins Motorsports organization," said Wolfe. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to work with someone of Kasey's caliber who is just boiling with talent. With Tyler's talent and Kasey's guidance, I don't think it will take Tyler long to get to that level as well."

Prior to joining Akins Motorsports, Wolfe was employed by Team Yellow Racing as crew chief for 10 different drivers in 2004, recording two poles, three top-fives and 11 top-10's.

"I'm looking forward to starting a relationship with Jon," said Kahne. "Hopefully the new chemistry will get this Great Clips team moving in the right direction."

Kahne finished the 2004 NASCAR Busch Series season 11th in points with two Bud Poles (Richmond International Raceway and Dover International Speedway), 10 top-five and 13 top-10 finishes.

He will share driving duties for the No. 38 Great Clips Dodge with Walker in the NASCAR Busch Series and compete in his second full season in the NEXTEL Cup Series in the No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge.

Again... that comment makes me wonder... if the chemistry had gone bad with Andrews...

I'm excited to see what the team does next year :)
