Title: Christy's steps to making the Chase work
Description: hehe, y'all know this should be good
Scrapbookgirl9 - December 5, 2004 09:43 PM (GMT)
All right so yea, in the middle of the night the other night part of this came to me and so I put some thought into the rest of it and came up with this.......this would be the only way I think I can very be happy with the Chase. And well frankly I think I know more about the fans that Brian France does, I mean come on when is the last time he's sat in the stands and watched a race, gotten up at 5am to drive to a race or stand in line for a drivers autograph, etc, etc.
Step 1: Let's give the winner of a race a even 200 points for winning the race and leave the rest of the points alone, this way a win is actually worth something and we'll see better racing with people trying to get that win!
Step 2: Let's reward the Top 5 at the end of race 26 by crowning a reg season champ and giving recognition to the other top 5 by giving them bonus money for those finishing positions.
Step 3: Let's also reward the guy leading at race 26 with a 25 point lead over the 2nd place guy instead of just 5 and let's throw this catch in......whoever is the leader at the end of race 26, if they go on to win the Chase then there is a million dollar bonus to them.(don't know about you guys, but the Top 5 at about race 20 just stopped racing pretty much and it was annoying, let's give them an incentive to go for 1st at race 26)
Step 4: Let's set the Chase drivers seperate from the rest of the 33, by instituting a points system like this: Highest finishing Chase driver gets 100 points, 2nd highest finishing Chase driver gets 90 and down to 10th Chase driver gets 10 points.........with a 25 point bonus if you are a Chase driver and win the race.
Step 5: But there is a catch to that points system, it only crowns a Champion after that all other drivers are reverted back to their regular points(so really we are keeping the old points and then the Chase points the whole time) and this allows for drivers outside the Chase to make it into the Top 10 and onto the stage if their performance in the final 10 indicates they should be there.
Step 6: Personally I'd like to see them make the cut off point 500 points, not 400 as it is now........let's give the real possibility of more than 10.....that will make it exciting!
Step 7: Let's get 10 race tracks that truly represent the sport, so let's switch the schedule around.......we need a road course, we don't need so many 1.5 milers and the such.
Believe it or not, only seven steps(hehe, I bet some of you thought it would be way more) but with those Changes man the possibilities for competition and for entertainment, ratings and marketing are endless.
Oh but I do have a couple others suggestions........there needs to be a week off between race 26 and the start of the Chase and there needs to be some strict rules set down for intentionally wrecking or intentionally blocking and moving over to let someone buy..........let's make it about true racing, not teammate helping teammate by wrecking someone or pulling over to let them by.
All right, so your thoughts?
kimmerlh - December 5, 2004 10:03 PM (GMT)
So when is France stepping down and appointing you to handle his job?!?
I can definately agree, this whole top ten thing made certain that NASCAR earned their money cause they figured what are the chances someone who isn't heavily sponsored will make it.
UGH!! oh i def agree with the being able to move up, i mean atleast then those drivers outside the top ten will still race and be excited, i feel bad for them. They get ignored and always asked questions about the chase drivers. Or if they were 11-15 keep being reminded that they didn't make it. Kinda like "you aren't good enough so we gonna only talk to you for a lil bit" and it all this "don't they know i am a chase driver??" crap can stop and teams can run like usual.
ok so yeah that lil peice you wrote got me going lol but thats a good thing!!
Good job!!

my thought on this would be to award 2 trophies....one for the first 26 races, sort of a regular season championship and a prize of like 2 mil....then you take the top ten, and race the last ten races for an additional 2 mil, with all 10 drivers starting out like it is now, 5 points apart...
this would reward the first 26 races more, and then make the last 10 more of a race for additional money.

I agree that the winner should get more points and i also think that the winning the pole should give you points too. I think winning the pole is a very difficult thing to do.
That is all i am gonna say cuz I am not a fan of the new system and never will be; they keep saying this was the closest margin in nascar history but under the old system Bill Elliott won in 88' by 24 points and lost in 92' by 10 points, so not all years were clinched in the last couple of races.
danielle8925 - December 6, 2004 12:21 AM (GMT)
I definetly agree with the more points to the winner part. I have always thought that. But I pretty much agree with it all. But I'd prefer no chase what so ever.
Scrapbookgirl9 - December 6, 2004 12:23 AM (GMT)
Oh trust me I'd prefer no Chase at all, but I know that part is hear to stay.......so if we are gonna have to have a Chase, thats how I'd want it. It eliminates the major flaws in the Chase
danielle8925 - December 6, 2004 12:25 AM (GMT)
Of course it's hear to stay because Brian France is a damn idiot with an ego bigger than the universe.

Christy for NASCAR president!

I think if they lowered the amount of points awarded they could get rid of The Chase all together and still have a tight points battle. Say 100 points to the winner, 80 to 2nd, 78 to 3rd, 76 to 4th...and then progress a countdown so that last place gets somwhere around 10 or 20....that would keep everyone pretty close in points and give a 20 point advantage to winners....does any of that make sense? It's 2 in the morning and I'm tired, I'll probably read this tomorrow and wonder what the hell I was saying!

I will second the motion,
Christy for NASCAR President!!!! :clap

Makes sense girl and it would def work that way too........Brian France just needs to wake up and realize that his Chase ain't perfect(okay so really its nowhere near) and he needs to make changes......but how about doing something NASCAR certainly never has done, let's get the drivers, owners and fans input on it. I mean why can't NASCAR do focus groups with the fans and sit and down talk with drivers and owners and hell let's throw sponsors in there to find out what they think would be good instead of just pulling some crap no one has heard about out of their A$$ and having it determine our champion, blah!
